Family Day - No Swim on Family Day next week for all groups.
Maverick Madness
We had over 40 swimmers compete this past weekend at the Maverick Madness meet on the weekend in south Calgary. It was an exciting three day affair full of fast and exciting races. We had a number of swimmers qualify to compete in some exciting eliminator races. Evelyn O’Brien, Asher Friesen, and Rhys Pinder all competed in the 25 Free eliminator race meanwhile, Priya Walper, Kate Machacek, Jocelyn Kozub, Kya Pratt, Kayden Uys, JJ Koop, and Elio Peruffo all tried their hand in the 50 Free eliminator. Congratulations to all those swimmers for qualifying for the eliminator and to Kya and Elio who took home the overall Eliminator Wins in their age group. The meet was filled with best times and excitement as LASC swimmers claimed over 150 new personal bests at the meet. We also saw over 30 swimmers compete in at least one new event this past weekend for the first time in their swimming careers. It is always great to see the young swimmers branch out and challenge themselves across a multitude of events. Further, I would like to highlight the fact that I was approached multiple times by meet management and officials about the politeness and kindness that our swimmers showed to all of the volunteers and officials at the meet. We had three swimmers, Priya Walper, Nyah Nickel, and Bentley Eastman, who were singled out to be given prizes based on their courtesy and respectful behaviour. As a coach, it made me exceptionally happy to hear about the outstanding character our swimmers were showing towards the other teams and those helping to make these meets possible.
We have updated our Event page to include all the up to date information we have on meets until our Mid-Season break in April.
LASC Friday Night Races - February 14th
This will be our first Friday Night Races of the 2025 new year and we invite all members of the club, from Academy to Jr. Horns to come and participate. Please have your swimmer arrive on deck by 4:20PM. The event will run from 4:30 - 6:00 PM. We will need some parent volunteers to help us time and have the event run as smoothly as possible.
Western Transmountain Festival III - Calgary - Feb 21-22
Thank you to everyone who has signed up for the meet. This meet was open to qualifying swimmers in the Academy, National, and Jr. National groups. Long Course Qualifying standards are listed in the meet package. The meet package and information is on our website.
Winter Provincial Trials (Mar 7-9th) & Winter Provincial Championships (Mar 21-23rd)
In March we have two Provincial Competitions that require qualifying times in order to attend. Winter Provincial Trials will be held in Calgary and require at least one Provincial Trial Qualifying Time. Winter Provincial Championships will be held in Edmonton and will require at least one Championship Qualifying Time. Meet Packages and information is on our event page. We had some new qualifiers this weekend so please check the list of current qualifiers along with time standards on our website here.
Bridge City Spring Classic - Saskatoon (April 10-13th)
Today is the last day for registration, if you are thinking of attending please register. We’re hoping to bring a crowd!
This is a brand new meet on the schedule for us this year as we are looking to bring a group out to Saskatoon for some long course racing. The plan is to do this as a Team Travel event with the swimmers taking a bus over with the coaches and chaperones. It is a long course, heats and finals meet at the fabulous Shaw Centre in sunny Saskatoon and we would like to invite swimmers from the Academy, National, Jr. National, and Provincial groups to attend. We do need a sufficient number of swimmers to make team travel viable, however, we still plan on attending the meet on personal travel if we do not meet that threshold. You can sign-up and find more information on our event page, please indicate whether you will be doing team or personal travel.
Take care and swim fast!
Josh
