Event Recap - Winter Provincial Trials
This past weekend, LASC sent 11 swimmers up to compete at Alberta Winter Provincial Trials in Calgary. The exciting three day affair had swimmers contesting in heats and finals with swimmers able to earn their way to next weekend's Provincial Championships in Edmonton by hitting the Champs qualifying standard or winning their respective event. A very big congratulations to JJ Koop and Kaitlin Kozub who were able to book their tickets to Provincial Champs by taking home victories in the 50 Free and 50 Fly respectively. JJ was able to add two Bronze medals in the 100 & 400 Free and a Silver in the 100 IM, while Kaitlin added Silver Medals in the 50, 100, 200, and 400 Free and a Bronze in the 800 Free.
LASC swimmers were prepared for the meet and showed up to deliver their best results as we saw many memorable performances. Lauren Anderson added a PB in the 50 Fly while advancing into Finals in three other events, 50 Free, 50 Back, and 100 Back. Addison Bell picked up a trio of personal bests in the 50 Free, 200 Free, and 200 IM with her IM dipping under 3:00 for the first time. Taylor de Jager saw 3 season best times in her 100 Free, 100 IM, and 200 Breast and was able to qualify for the finals in her 200 Breast. Evan Grant had a terrific weekend, seeing lifetime bests in each of the 6 events he competed in along with making Finals in both his 50 Free and 50 Back. Jocelyn Kozub raced hard all weekend long with a tough event lineup and was able to produce some of the fastest times she's raced at in a few of her events. Sara Kozub saw a trio of best times in her freestyle and backstroke races while placing into the Top 10 for both her 400 Free and 200 IM events. Bergen Linder had an exceptional weekend of racing as he saw 5 new lifetime bests, most notably taking almost 10 seconds off in both his 200 IM and 200 Free races. Jace Murakami swam to a number of best times and was able to progress into Finals in all of his breaststroke races and the 200 IM. His highlight of the meet came on Sunday evening as he dropped more than 5 seconds in his 200 Breaststroke to finish in 4th place, less than half a second from the silver and bronze medal times. Our last swimmer of the meet, Bennett Schipper represented himself well, adding a best time in his 100 Breast and coming within striking distance of a number of best times while adding a Final in the 50 Breast.
LASC swimmers now have their eyes set on the Pronghorn Classic this weekend and Alberta Provincial Championships next weekend. Our Champs team has now grown by a few swimmers and were excited to see what they are able to accomplish next weekend.
