April Newsletter #2
Hello LASC Families,
I hope you were able to enjoy the fine sunny weather outside today. We are approaching our Mid-Season Break for the season, however, once we return, we have a few events following quickly after.
Mid-Season Break
This is our last week of swimming before our mid-season break starting this Friday, April 18th - 27th. So a reminder that our last day in the pool is this Thursday, April 17th. The break is to give all of our staff and athletes a little pause, reset and refresh, before we get into our summer cycle to finish off the year strong!
While we are away on break next week, we have a few upcoming meets following our break. You can find all of the meets and further information, including entries and timeouts, on our Event page. As well, there is a link to a PDF with all of the meets we have during the season here.
Coulee Kids Pediatric Dentistry Spring Challenge - Lethbridge, May 2nd - 4th
Our second home meet of the year, our Coulee Kids Spring Challenge kicks off at the University Pool on May 2nd. The three day meet has timed finals and relay races starting on Friday afternoon and finishing on Sunday morning. Please indicate on the registration if you will NOT be attending the meet. This meet is open and encouraged for all competitive swim members.
Marlins Mercenary Madness - Medicine Hat, May 23rd - 25th
We return for our second meet in Medicine Hat this year, near the end of May. This meet is open and intended for swimmers in the Olympic Way, Provincial, and Jr. National groups. Swimmers in the Jr. National group who are qualified for CSI may attend this Medicine Hat meet, but are encouraged to attend CSI on the following weekend. We encourage swimmers to attend one or the other, rather than both. National group swimmers who are not qualified for CSI are encouraged to attend Medicine Hat. The three day meet starts on Friday afternoon with Timed Final races, while the Saturday and Sunday portions will have heats and Finals. Our registration closes for this meet next Tuesday, April 22nd.
Cascade Speed International - Calgary, May 29th - 31st
Our last meet of the month, the CSI 2025 meet is open to qualifying swimmers in the Jr. National, National, and Academy Groups. Swimmers in those groups without Qualifying Times are encouraged to attend Medicine Hat. Qualifying times are listed in the meet package and are in LC meters. If you are unsure of your swimmers qualifications, you can reach out to myself and I can help you out. The three day heats and finals Meet is held out of the MNP Centre in downtown Calgary and should be filled with lots of fast swimming. Please register your swimmer on our site by May 8th.
Swim-A-Thon - Friday, May 9th
On Friday, May 9th, from 4:30 - 6:30 PM we will be holding our annual Swim-a-Thon. This is one of our biggest fundraisers and a great chance for swimmers to show how far they have come since the beginning of the season. Swimmers will have 2 hours to complete up to 200 lengths. For our older swimmers, the challenge is to see how quickly they can complete the 200 lengths. 200 Lengths is a total of 5 kilometers of swimming!
Our goal is to raise $12,000 to help pay for pool rentals, coaching wages, and to keep our fees as affordable as possible. Within your annual fundraising commitment, we have factored in $100 per swimmer.
This is a great event for every swimmer in our club. While our Jr. Horns and Masters swimmers don’t have fundraising commitments, they are welcome to come and join in and see how many lengths they can do. It’s a ton of fun and we have treats and snacks for all swimmers participating.
