June Newsletter #2

Josh Sorensen

Hello everyone,

We have an ongoing meet to talk about, an upcoming meet to prepare for, and a few other items to go over for the next upcoming weeks.

Last Day

The last day of swimming for all groups of LASC will be Friday, June 27th. Swimmers racing at EKI and/or Summer Championships will continue to swim into July.

Ongoing Meets

Canadian World Championship Trials

As many of you hopefully know, Canadian World Trials are ongoing in Victoria and we have 6 LASC representatives at the meet competing. It is a long meet with the first day kicking off this past Saturday and going until this coming Thursday. For those that have not tuned in yet, it starts every night at 6:30 PM on CBC’s Youtube Channel and CBC Gem. There is usually very good commentary given by former Canadian National Record Holder and Olympic Medalist Brittany MacLean and Cascade Swim Club Manager Jasen Pratt. So far we have seen some unbelievable swims with Summer McIntosh breaking the Women’s 400 Free World Record on night one along with her and plenty of other swimmers, like Josh Liendo and Ilya Kharun, racing to Top 10 Times in the world this year. All of our LASC representatives have now raced at the meet with many of them having their first race of the meet earlier today. Kate Hill, Calyn Lothian, Jake Odorski, and Raine Arden all dove in for the first time racing in the 50 Free this morning with Kate grabbing a best time. Taylor Ginther joined in with the group for her third event of the meet. As mentioned, Taylor has raced in a couple events, making the Junior Final and breaking her own club record in the 50 Backstroke on Sunday night and adding a good swim in her 100 Back too. Daniel Alexander has stopped the clock twice now to new best times in both the 50 Back and 100 Back over the first couple days of the meet as well. Each of our 6 attendees still have another race or two spread out over the next few days. So please, tune in to watch our LASC swimmers go head to head with the best in the country.

Schedule Adjustment - Friday, June 13th & Saturday, June 14th

This weekend we are hosting the Alberta Provincial Festival Meet along with Swim Alberta. The meet serves as a Provincial Championship meet for the top 12 & under swimmers in Alberta. Because of the timing of the meet, we will not have practice this Friday or Saturday. If your swimmer is not already helping to volunteer at the meet, we encourage them to come to the meet to cheer on their friends and teammates. We have the homepool advantage, we want to make sure it’s put to good use!
