Long Term Athlete Development Stage: FUNdamental | LEARN TO TRAIN

Parents Guide to Long Term Athlete Development

Description:

The aim of the Top Age Group (TAG) is to educate young swimmers about the correct training and competitive pathways, continue to develop drills, stroke technique, starts and turns. The training environment remains fun, however a greater emphasis is placed on competition, training correctly and discipline. Swimmers will be aiming to compete at the local and regional level and aspiring to compete at MAC hosted events, primarily at Markham Pan Am Pool. Swimmers who excel in this squad will progress to either the Bronze or the JAG Group depending on competition performance and training commitment. Swimmers will understand that their performance will be directly related to their effort and commitment and will be expected to take more responsibility for their own training.

Pre-requisite:

  • Be 10 & Under.
  • Commitment to your own competition and training.
  • Able to swim all four strokes over all distances in training and competition.
  • Execute good technique and drills across all four strokes.
  • Coaches discretion, based on talent identification and long-term potential.

Expectations:

  • Swimmers will arrive on deck 15 minutes before each practice for activation protocol.
  • Swimmers will have all required training equipment at every practice.
  • Swimmers will attend all scheduled practices to the best of their ability with a 90% expectation.
  • Swimmers will attend all scheduled competitions as outlined for the group.
  • Swimmers will conduct themselves with highest level of professionalism at all practices and swim meets.
  • Swimmers will represent the Markham Aquatic with pride by wearing required Team Wear at all meets without exception.
