Ken Fitzpatrick Head Coach
‘Coach Ken’ is a career coach, with thirty plus diverse years on deck, following personal years of success
in the pool (London, Mississauga, University of Southern California, internationally representing
Canada). Ken’s proud moments in the pool were achieved as the Captain of the USC Trojans (2-time All-
American/2-time Academic Honours recipient) and again as Captain of the successful Canadian Olympic
Team at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles (5 th place finisher – 200m breaststroke).
Ken began his coaching career in Southern California (Beach Swim Club, Long Beach, CA), before
returning to Canada in the west (1995 - Lethbridge, AB) as both the varsity and club Head Coach. After
success and recognition in Lethbridge, in the fall of 2000, Ken took on a role in one of Canada’s largest
and most prestigious programs - Cascade Swim Club/Calgary - as the Assistant Head Coach/Marketing
Director. He returned to his hometown club (LAC) – London, ON in 2008 - supporting senior swimmers
and as Associate Coach of the Western Mustangs. He also led the local Masters team (London Silver
Dolphins) to three provincial and one national championship banner.
Ken is an NCCP Senior trained coach (Level 3); led the competition committee in Southern California; has
worked on the Education Committee of the CSCA, volunteered on the Swim AB Coaches Association and
was elected President of the CIS (Canadian University Swim Coaches Association). He has been
recognized by the CSCA for Domestic Excellence, Full Speed article contributions and in the OUA
(Ontario University Athletics) as a co-coach of the year.
Ken believes in his athletes – he champions the process of self-improvement through all of his
programming – like many coaches, he believes that swimming mirrors life - the process and the journey
ultimately are the reward – regardless of the destination/goal.
Cheryl Blay Associate Comp Coach/Comp Bronze Lead
Virginia Diemert Splash Lead
Virginia has been involved with OSAC in a variety of roles since 2000. She has been a swimmer for as long as she can remember, starting out in KW with the Rubber Duckie summer swim club and later several clubs; into varsity swimming at Brock University.
"I was never a super star swimmer, but love the feeling of being in the water surrounded by positive, hard working, and motivational people." She is currently a masters swimmer and competes provincially and nationally (and she is a star - capturing several medals at last season's Masters Nationals in Calgary)
She has been coaching for many years and enjoys being a part of a swimmer's knowledge and progress, in and out of the water.
Virginia believes that swimming helps make good life choices, because swimmers need to organize (manage their time and belongings) themselves, and work hard if they want to succeed.
Of course our young athletes need family support all the way along!
Virginia thanks parents for choosing swimming and encouraging your child to be active!
See you at the pool!
Elizabeth Warden Waves Lead

Liz Warden brings a wealth of experience and passion for the sport of swimming to her new role at the Owen Sound Aquatic Club.

Liz’s swimming journey began at the age of six with the Scarborough Swim Club, encouraged by her mother, Muriel, who was both a coach and an accomplished open-water champion. She trained and competed with Scarborough through high school before moving on to the University of Toronto, where she swam under the guidance of renowned coach Byron MacDonald.

At U of T, Liz had a standout varsity career. She was undefeated in all OUA races throughout her five  years and never lost a race at the CIS Championships in the 400 IM. As captain of the women’s team, she earned recognition as a four-time All-Canadian and was named Canadian University Athlete of the Year in 2002.

On the international stage, Liz represented Canada for a decade as a member of the National Team. Her career highlights include winning a silver medal in the 400 IM at the 1998 Commonwealth Games, a bronze medal in the 200 IM at the 2001 World University Games, and competing for Canada at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, where she finished 11th in the 400 IM, 15th in the 200 IM, and 18th in the 200 backstroke. She was ranked as high as 5th in the world in the 200 IM.

Liz’s coaching career began as a teenager with the Olympic Way program in Scarborough, introducing young swimmers to competitive training. After retiring from competition, she coached age-group swimmers with the Toronto Swim Club while also teaching full-time with the Toronto District School Board. She finds great fulfillment in helping young swimmers build skills, work toward their goals, and discover the fun of the sport through dedication and teamwork.

Now living in Kemble, Liz is a proud mom of two boys who attend school in Owen Sound. She is excited to bring her knowledge, energy, and love of the sport to the Owen Sound Aquatic Club and  looks forward to helping swimmers of all levels reach their full potential.

Kortney Mink Tides Lead
Kourtney first joined the OSAC team at age 8 where she swam as a competitive swimmer
for 10 years before moving onto post-secondary school. Here she found herself coaching a
smaller competitive swim club in London Ontario and was able to coach swimmers at the
provincial level. “I remember the early morning practices and the friends I made as a
swimmer that would end up being some of my closest friends”
Kourtney feels that being part of a team sport that is also very individualized is unique and
allows for growth, mentally and physically but also teaches a need to be able to lean on
fellow teammates or be their biggest cheerleaders.
“What other sport can you push yourself until you have nothing left in a race and then turn
to the side for a breath and see your entire team lined up along the side of the pool cheering
you on. This is when you know it’s a team sport”
Kourtney is very excited to be part of the coaching team again this year.
Ryan Hood Associate Coach
Graeme Manwell Jr. Coach - Waves
Hi, I’m Graeme!
I’ve been swimming with OSAC since 2019, and now I get to coach Waves! As a swimmer, I know that building the FUNdamentals stage of swimming is essential to develop a healthy and goal-oriented lifestyle. My hope for this season is to introduce focus and perseverance to the Waves group. No matter their skill level, swimmers acquire positive mental habits that they’ll carry with them for life.
See you out on deck!
Sarah Wignall Jr. Coach - Tides
Hi everyone! My name is Sarah Wignall and I am honoured to be a coach for OSAC this 2025-2026 season. This is my 10th year being a swimmer with OSAC and I have grown to love the sport ever since my first year in splash.
As I grew older, I began to notice more and more how much coaches contribute to a team. I wanted to help younger swimmers as much as my coaches have helped me. This year, I will be coaching with the Tides group and my goal is not only to improve their swimming, but also to ensure that they love this sport - that they grow to enjoy it as I have and gain skills that will help them throughout their life. I can’t wait to see everyone out on deck!
