Spartans Santa LMR Recap

Amy McGrail

PSW had 30 swimmers from the Junior Regional & Provincial, Youth Development & Regional’ and Senior Competitive compete this past weekend in Chilliwack at the Spartan Santa LMR.

The Junior Regional and Youth Regional groups had strong weekend performances and had 3 1st time LMR qualifiers competing (Lansen C, Emily W, and Sabrina S. Alex L, Jillian D and Emily W all went 100% best times and both groups were 100% best times in the 100 FS event. Other highlights included Jillian D dropping 14” in her 200 FS and taking the heat win, Derrick L lowering his 100 BR personal best by 14” and Sabrina S taking only 3 breaths her whole 50 FS! Special shout out to Alex L who had a great meet this weekend, learning from all of his areas of improvement from last meet and addressing them this meet.

Youth Development had 5 swimmers competing this past weekend. Raya G & Charlotte A showed consistency throughout the weekend going 5/6 best times. Marina S had impressive 200m races in the IM and FS dropping 17” and 13” respectively from each and had big heat wins in both races. Emily T also had a big drop in her 200 IM, lowering her time by just over 8”. Hermione W had a strong 100 BA, lowering her time by 11” and Charlotte A had strong 100 & 200 BA, showing very solid splitting and great stroke rates throughout. Coach Amy is excited about all the improvements shown and is excited to see where the girls are after the break and training in January.

This weekend the Senior Competitive group had three swimmers attend the Spartan Santa LMR meet. Christina X. did a great job of underwater kicking and kicking in her races, she achieved 2 new best times! Tristan O. had a phenomenal 200m free where he maintained very consistent splitting and outstanding kick. While Ian Z. had a few goggle defects during his races, he did an awesome job of pushing through his races, trying his very best and with a positive attitude! Although there were only three swimmers from the Senior Competitive group at the meet, these swimmers did a great job of motivating each other and staying positive.

The Junior Provincial swimmers had a great weekend of racing before Christmas break. The swimmers have been working on proper underwaters and fast feet since the start of the season which many were able to demonstrate throughout the meet.

- Jeffery L. and Chelsea Z. both had unbelievable splits during their 200 Backstroke! They were pushing till the end of the race without hesitation. I am very impressed with the effort and tenacity demonstrated!

- Ella C, Gioia T, and Chelsea Z. all swam their first 100 fly. Good job girls! Next up is 200 Fly (:

- Ella C. impressed the coaches with her 200 freestyle. She did underwaters off every wall, going past the flags. I am so proud of her as this is a skill she has been working really hard on in practice.

- Brandon H. swam a very speedy 100 backstroke getting his second Divisional time!

- Jeffery L. ended the meet with a strong 200 Freestyle, making sure to take advantage of his underwaters.

Coach Laiken is very excited to see what the New Year brings!

Congratulations to all swimmers who competed, what a great way to finish out 2022! The PSW coaches cannot wait to see what 2023 has in store for their swimmers.

See you at the pool,
