Jy Lawrence Head Coach - National

With over 15 years of coaching experience  Jy began her coaching career at the University of Calgary Swim Club and coached there while getting her degree in Kinesiology. She has been coaching here since 2011, marking this as her 13th year coaching with PSW.

Jy is also a certified yoga instructor, personal trainer and Olympic Weightlifting coach. Prior to coaching, Jy swam for PSW throughout highschool and been involved with the club since 2002.

Ben Geary Assistant Head Coach - Provincial

This is Ben's 3rd season wth PSW. Coaching full-time since 2009, Ben has worked with multiple National qualifiers and now National record holders. His first 11 years of coaching were with Haney Seahorses and multiple summer clubs. He spent 4 years as the Seahorses’ Head Coach then moved over to PSW in 2021. He is excited to lead the new PSW Provincial group and work with our excellent staff to create a constant stream of performance in years to come.

Wendy Prentice Divisional Coach

Wendy is a certified level 2 swim coach, and has been coaching in various roles for over 30 years.  She has coached development up to CJC level swimmers over the last 6 years as an Age Group Coach at the Mississauga Aquatic Club.  She has been a part of MSSAC for 19 years, being a swim parent since 2004 with children progressing from development to Canadian Trials. Personal swimming experience includes swimming for the University of Ottawa and then Masters. Wendy has a passion for swimming both on the deck as a coach and in the water as a swimmer.

I believe swimming has the power to develop a young person both physically and mentally.  The work ethic, goal setting and resilience they learn from swimming stays with them in university and through adulthood, shaping the people they become.  Every swimmer should look back on their swimming career as a positive experience with many great memories.

Amy McGrail Head Development Coach - 10s Gold

Amy has been involved in swimming for as long as she can remember. She began her coaching career in the BCSSA and spent 10 summers there. In 2007 she also began coaching year round with the Richmond Rapids. In 2009 Amy joined the Winskill Dolphins Coaching staff, where she coached for 8 seasons. She spent 3 years as the Assistant Head Coach, 2 years as the Head Development Coach and her final 2 seasons were as the Head Coach for the club.  

In 2012 Amy was named Swim BC’s 11-12 Age Group Coach of the Year and has coached swimmers to numerous Club and Provincial records. She has also had 2 swimmers break  12& Under Canadian Age Group records and had a Para swimmer set multiple Canadian S14 Records. Amy has had the opportunity to coach on several Provincial teams, including being a member of the coaching staff at the 2013 Canada Summer Games. She has also coached and traveled on 4 Para National Team trips.  

Amy is a Level 3 trained Coach and has worked with swimmers from the LMR level all the way up to swimmers competing at  Olympic Trials. She has coached swimmers to 25 Age Group Championship Medals, 5 Western Canadian Championship medals, 9 Canada Summer Games Medals as well as 3 International Medals at the Para Pan Pacific Games in 2014.    

Amy is entering her 3rd season with PSW and is beyond excited to be taking on her new role as Head Development Coach and overseeing the entire 10 & Under program. She looks forward to bringing her energy, knowledge, passion for and love of swimming to her groups and the club.

Laiken Greffard 12s Gold - Assistant Provincial

This will be Laiken's fifth year coaching with PSW and her fifteenth year with the club. She swam with PSW since she was 5 years old and has made numerous memories with her teammates and coaches/mentors. Laiken is currently studying at Douglas College and will be graduating in April of 2024 with her Bachelor's in Physical Education Specialization in Kinesiology. Laiken was Head Coach at the 2022 BC Summer Games where she was able to work and develop swimmers from other clubs in the Lower Mainland. Laiken believes that swimming allows athletes to become well-rounded individuals. Learning how to time manage, persevere, set goals, and develop both physically and mentally. Laiken creates a safe and welcoming environment for her athletes so they are excited to show up and participate during every practice.

Alex Chernomorchenko 14s Gold - 14s Silver - Masters

Alex is thrilled to dive into his 8th season as a member of the PSW coaching staff. With a decade of experience in the swimming world, Alex has worn multiple hats, representing the club not only as a dedicated swimmer but also as a passionate coach. Alex is NCCP 201 Trained and is working towards his 201 certification and also NCCP 101 Certified. Outside of the pool, Alex is pursuing his academic career studying Criminology at Douglas College in hopes of becoming a Police Officer in the coming years. He is very excited to be joining the club for yet another year and is very excited to see his swimmers progress throughout the season. 

Reese Blunden Senior Comp-12 Silver-12 Bronze-HSF

This is Reese’s second year coaching with PSW after coaching for four years with Langley Olympians Swim Club. Before coaching, she swam competitively for 9 years at the provincial level. Currently, Reese is studying her bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences at SFU. With her passion for the sport and commitment to personal and athletic development, she is looking forward to helping each swimmer pursue their goals.
