Chena 12&Under Meet Recap

Darlene Przybylowski

This past weekend we had 33 swimmers compete at the Chena 12&Under Meet. This meet was an absolute blast and great introduction for many of these swimmers competing at their first 2-day meet. Every swimmers took something good away from their races this weekend and we are all very proud that every swimmer represented PSW strongly!

From Junior Development we had 12 swimmers competing, and for many of them it was their first 2 day meet ever! All the juniors competing on Saturday raced their 1st ever 50 fly where as a group we worked on maintaining a strong dolphin kick throughout and not forgetting about our 2 hand touches at either wall. Veer N, Marcus W, Ethan W, Arya S, Daniel G, and Peter W all raced in their first ever 200 IM and learned a lot. Elaine W dropped over 10” in her 200 IM as well. Riley M raced the 100 IM and swam a time fast enough that he can face 200 IM at our next PASS meet. Also a big shout out to Marcus W who was the only JD swimmer who raced 100 BA and went 8” faster than in practice last week!

We also had 100% PB performances from Riley M, Marcus W, Elaine W, Peter W, Anika D, Ian DB and Felipe A. Up next for our Junior Development swimmers is our In House PASS Meet February 26.

Junior Regional had 14 swimmers compete with a lot of great swims! Right off the start, Emily W raced a phenomenal 100 FR with non stop kicks and amazingly done underwaters and breakouts resulting in a 22sec drop from her last time! Duygu D won 2 bell heat prizes in the 200 IM & 50 FL. Lucien L achieved his LMR time after his 200IM, way to go Lucien! Richard W and Sabrina S 'survived' their first 100 FL race and Cici T raced an incredible 50 FL going a speedy 45 seconds! Looks like Cici is ready for 100 FL too! Some of the Juniors experienced being disqualified for the first time, but that didn't stop them from having a smile at the end of their race and ways they can improve for the next time. Here are some swims that unfortunately didn't count but deserve to be recognized: Alan T dropped over 30sec in his 200IM, Richard W swimming his first 100 FL,  and Stephen Z in his 100 FR. 100% best times from: Duygu D, Lucien L, Emily W and Cici T. This was such a fantastic experience for all the Juniors who attended, I am very excited to see all of them race again at our In-House Pass Meet next month or at the Delta meet in March!

From Youth Development we had 4 swimmers competing. The focus for them was to bring the high stroke rates that they had been working on in practices to their 50 events and then to put together a solid 200 IM. The best example of this was in the 50 backstroke where all 4 swimmers raised their stroke rates and went best times, with Charlotte A dropping just over 2” even with a badly timed finish! Olivia PB put together a solid 200 IM going her 1st best time in that event of the year. Marina S continued to make huge strides in her racing, going 100% best times for the weekend, including another 7” drop in her 200 IM and almost 4” in her 50 Br. Up next for the Youth Development group is the Delta LMR March 11/12.

Youth Regional had 3 swimmers compete, while the rest of the group raced at Surrey's Winterfest. Edward W achieved his first divisional time in 400 IM alongside with his partner Jialin A who also attained another two more divisional times this weekend in the 50 BK and 100 BK. Congratulations on qualifying Edward! Miko P had beautiful technique in his 50 BR and focused a lot on his underwaters that were performed very well in all of his races! All three boys learned a lot from their racing experiences this weekend and continue to stay focused and excited for their next opportunity to go fast. Great job boys!

Truly and amazing job for everyone who attend. We are very stoked to see everyone race again soon! Go PSW Go!
