Kamloops Swim Meet Summary
The Vernon Kokanee Swim Club participated in the Kamloops Ice Classic Swim Meet this past weekend, December 9-11. With heats and finals there were many excellent racing opportunities for the Vernon swimmers. VKSC was well represented racing against clubs from around BC and Alberta, including the Calgary Cascade Swim Club. 30 Kokanees took part in the three day meet which produced 193 new best times.
100% new or best times in all events included Niya Kashuba with 8 new best swim times, Rylan McGowan with 6 new best times, and Kubrick Reed also with 8 new best times.
Outside smoke Award (winning your heat or final from the outside lanes): Hannah Gordon and Norah McIntyre 50 Back, Kilian 100IM, Niya 50BR.
Big drops in time: Max Wright 3.5 sec drop in 200Back and 4 best times, Emily Adam 3.5 second drop in 100Free and 5 best times, Julia Brandner final in 50 Free and 6 best times, Danika Buse 2 second drop in 50Fly and 4 best times, Lilly Callender had 6 best times and a 4 second drop in 100Back, Kayne Clarke -43 in 400Free 6 best times and -5 seconds in 50Back, Dean Goldie -9 sec in 200Free, -7in 200 IM, 4 best times, Hannah Gordon -50 in 200Fly (Biggest Drop in Time Award!), -8 in 400Free, Violet Jenner had a seven second drop in her 100BA, Janelle Johnson -12 in 100Free, and -8 in 200Free, Niya Kashuba -9 in 50 Fly, Johnny Kroes -4 in 50Fly and 7th place in the final, Mariia Kuzmenko -9 in 200Free and -4 in 100Free, Robbie Duke 2.5 second drop in 100Free which dropped him under 60 seconds for the first time to go with 3 best times, Breanna Jolly 4 second drop in 200Free, Kenzie Krahn 6 second drop in 200Free with 7 new best times- 4 events with 2 second drops, Angel Loseth 4 new best times with a 1 sec drop in 100 Fly to add to four gold medals in 50Fly, 50Free, 200Free, Rylan McGowan -3 seconds in 100BR, Taryn McGowan had a 2.5 second drop in 100BA, Aidan McWhinney finished 100Free under 60 seconds for the first time with a time of 59.37 to go along with 7 best times, Chloe Nazarek had a 6.5 second drop in 200Free, Norah McIntyre 11 second drop in 200Back in the finals finishing 6th; also an 8 second drop in 100BR, Alex Puchkov had a great meet with 8 gold medals in the 10 and under boys category which included a 13 sec drop in 200Free, Kubrick Reed finished 7th in 100Back with a 12 second drop and a 5 second drop in his 200BR, Julia Russell had 6 best times and finished 5 seconds faster in 200Free, Kilian Russell won gold in 100IM in his first attempt at the event and added another 5 best times, Hera Serzane finished with 3 best times and -2.5 in 100Free, Cadel Simms had big drops with -10 in 50BR, -19 100BA, -14 in 100Free, Asher Vanderdeen 22 second drop in 200BR finishing in 4th place and took off 8 seconds in 100BR
