Renate Terpstra

Assistant Head Coach

Renate was born in The Hague, in the Netherlands. As a Teacher Physical Education, teaching and coaching has always been a big passion for her.

After a cycling trip in 2000 on the Kettle Valley Railway from Castlegar to Penticton, Renate and her family fell in love with the beautiful nature in Canada. In 2002, together with her husband Dirk and their two sons Wouter and Floor, they immigrated to Canada.

Both boys started swimming with the VKSC in 2005 and both swam with the club between 8-10 years.

Being a coach with the VKSC from 2006-2015, Renate developed a passion to coach swimmers with a physical impairment. Many of the swimmers ended up swimming for Team Canada at the Paralympic Games, Para Worlds and the Para Pan Am Games.

In 2019/2020, Renate came back to help the VKSC for a period of six months as an Interim coach.

From 2015 - current, Renate is coaching swimmers with a physical impairment.

Renate is very excited to be back as a coach with the VKSC and happy to coach Tier 3 and 4 and to work together with Head Coach Steven.
