VERNON KOKANEE SWIM CLUB

VKSC has been a competitive swim club since 1967!  We are currently planning for our new season starting this fall.  If you are interested in joining the club use the Contact Us button (above).  Check out our programs by clicking the Programs tab which includes swim schedules and fees (new season currently under construction).  Please email your child's info and we'll be in touch.  Some of our programs are currently full with a waitlist.

Welcome to the VKSC Officials page. In here you will find information to start, and continue, your journey as a VKSC Official.

It takes a small army to run a meet. Because of this, clubs require a certain amount of time from the swimmers families in the form of volunteering. The majority of volunteering take the form of officiating at VKSC hosted events. Our club has a volunteer policy in place to ensure we meet the minimum requirements to host a meet. We try to minimize the amount of support we require from other clubs and set a goal of hosting a swim meet with our own families. To do this, we require officials at all levels.

What does this mean? When you start your journey as a swim parent/guardian you might hear things like “timers” and “stroke judges”. These are a couple examples of official positions. We have developed a recommended path to official training that would help the club maintain the right amount of volunteers to fill all positions:

Entry level positions (Grassroots/Tier 6)

  • Timing (online course)
  • Chief Timer (course required)
  • Safety Marshall (online course)

Tier 4/3 - By now your swimmer is looking at participating in full meets and you have had some experience with the club

  • Inspector of Turn (course required)
  • Stroke Judge (course required)
  • Starter (course required)
  • Electronics (course required and mentorship during a meet)

Tier 2/1a/1 - By now you have been with the club a while and your swimmer has had experience in many meets.

  • Hytec (course required)

All of the online clinics can be found on Swimming Canada’s LMS (Learning Management System) found here  https://edu.swimming.ca/login.php

At the start of each season, you have to log into your officials account and answer the question to activate your account. As you progress through your training, you will receive pins denoting your level of official. For example, when you start, you will have a red pin. After you have been trained in a couple positions you receive your white pin. Beyond that, you can start your journey as a referee.
