​ASTS Competition Team will participate in USA Swimming sponsored events and competitions. This group is required to be registered with USA Swimming as a part of their membership with ASTS. The members of this group can not be affiliated with other USA swim teams.

PLATINUM GROUP

This group is only available at SAARC.

 

The Platinum Group Practice Schedule:

Pool:

Monday, Wednesday, Friday 6:30pm – 8:30pm SAARC

Saturday 9:30-11:30 am North Point

Sunday 9:30-11:30am St. James (Starting September 7, 2025)

 

Athletes in this group are 13 and older. Must have achieved provable USA motivational time standards of at least the following in the 13 and older categories in yards at the time of registration. 

 

2025-2028 USA Swimming Age Group Motivational Time Standards

 

TRY OUTS REQUIRED (SUMMER SWIMMERS ONLY) - If your swimmer swims on a summer team and have never swam on a club team, your swimmer will be asked to try-out and will need to show provable times within Prince-Mont rankings site equalvent to "BB" USA Swim Times in the 13 and up age groups. 

 

Minimum Time Standard is based on 13 years old. - 

Four or more equivalent “BB” times at the 13 and over level in yards 

 

Minimum Meet, Time , & Practice Requirements  - Coach reserves the right to move swimmer back down to a lower group for the entire season if swimmer does not stay competitive within level and/or meet below criteria: 

  • Swimmer must maintain "BB" times throughout the season to remain in this group. 
  • Swimmer must attend 3 practices or more per week 
  • Swimmer must attend 6 or more meets during the Fall Season (September - May)

 

GOLD GROUP 

Athletes in this group are usually at 13 years old but with the times designated below could be accepted younger. This group has been deemed proficient in all four strokes and have competed in USA swimming for at least two years. All swimmers in this group must have six provable times. Swimmers must meet criteria in yards at the time of registration. 

 

*Summer swimmers will have try-outs and must meet a minimum qualifying time designated by the Head Coach.  

*Younger swimmers with qualifying times are welcome; however, maturity is also a large factor that will be considered. If a swimmer has the time but can not handle the difficulty will not stay in the group.

 

TRY OUTS REQUIRED

 

13 and older minimum criteria:

  • All swimmers that do not quite meet the platinum standard and are High School Swimmers
  • Must have achieved six provable USA Swimming and High School times
  • Swimmers must be proficient in all strokes 

11–12-year-old standard criteria:

  • Must have achieved six provable USA Swimming times at the 11-12 level
  • Three of six events must at the “B” standard

10 years old standard criteria:

  • Must have achieved six provable USA Swimming times
  • Three must be at the “BB” standard and
  • The three remaining events must be at the “B” standard

The GOLD Group is divided into 2 subgroups based on their age. Gold 1 is for High School swimmers who do not have the qualifying times to swim in the Platinum Group. Gold 2 is for 10-14 yr olds who meet the above standards.

Athletes in this group are usually between 11-12 years old.  However, 13 and older swimmers are welcome. This group has been deemed effective in all four strokes and has competed previously in USA Swimming for at least one year and for a summer recreational league. All swimmers in this group must have four provable times. This group will use training methods conducive to building speed, endurance, and stroke proficiency while continuing to address technique.  

 

11–12-year-old standard criteria:

  • Must have achieved four provable USA Swimming times at the 11-12 level
  • Two of the four events must be near the “B” standard

10 years old standard criteria:

  • Must have achieved four provable USA Swimming times
  • Two of four must be at the “B” standard and
  • The two remaining events must be near the “B” standard

This group meets at ALL sites.

BRONZE GROUP

This group has been broken into three levels. Each level will have its degree of difficulty; however, the description of the category remains the same. 

 

This group meets at ALL sites.

Designed for swimmers who are learning the mechanics of the four competitive strokes: freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly. Athletes in this group focus mainly on learning and becoming effective in all four legal competitive strokes, having fun, and competition. The practices will increasingly become harder overtime. At the time of registration, all swimmers that do not have the time standards for Silver are placed in Bronze 3.

To move from Bronze 1 to Bronze 2, the swimmer must be able to swim a 50-yard freestyle and 50-yard backstroke unassisted and have met this criteria successfully in a USA Swim Meet. 

 

Bronze 2

To move from Bronze 2 to Bronze 3, the swimmer must be able to swim a 50-yard freestyle, 50-yard backstroke, and 50-year breaststroke successfully in a USA Swim Meet.

 

Bronze 3

To move from Bronze 3 to Silver, the swimmer must be able to swim a 50-yard freestyle, 50-yard backstroke, 50-year breaststroke, 50 butterfly, and 100 Individual Medley successfully in a USA Swim Meet. In addition, the swimmer should have 'B' USA Swimming Age Group Motivational Times in at least 2 different strokes.
