| A SHORT HISTORY by Coach Garry The Watertown Recreation Swim Team (WRST) began in 1972. The Watertown High School had recently been renovated and expanded to include a brand new state-of-the-art swimming facility. The Watertown Recreation Department got together with the then coach at the high school to create an opportunity for a new sport option for kids in the community. We started with a small but dedicated group of children who were interested in becoming better swimmers and having fun. Forty-eight years later we are still going strong. Through the years we have been extremely lucky to be able to attract many knowledgeable and talented coaches to help in this process. Currently, head coaches Tom Currier and Korin Santovasi are presently doing a phenomenal job working with the swimmers. They are working on building the program and making sure the kids all love the sport of swimming!. In 1990 the team branched out to offer USA Swimming opportunities to the members of the WRST. So was born the Yankee Clipper Swim Team. In 1991 the WRST, through the fund raising efforts of the team’s parents’ organization, paid for and donated a complete Colorado Timing system for the high school pool. This made our pool one of the first in our area to go fully electronic for timing and scoring. We were also one of the first teams to start running our meets on computer software when that technology became available. The Watertown Recreation Swim Team has a long and proud tradition of excellence and there is no end in sight. Welcome to our web site.
