MISSION STATEMENT:
Who We Are:
The Watertown Recreation Swim Program consists of our USA Swim Team and the Watertown Recreation Swim Team (WRST). The organization is a Town of Watertown Parks and Recreation based year round competitive swim program for children ages 5-18. The program is open to both local Watertown residents and non-residents. All Swimmers must meet basic swimming standards for competition established annually by the coaching staff. New swimmers and returning swimmers can register by contacting the Town of Watertown Park and Recreation department.
What We Do:
The team provides competitive instruction in all four swimming strokes, and encourages sportsmanship and a positive, cooperative family support environment. Swimmers and families have fun, enjoy friendships and being a part of a team. WRST is part of the CT Yankee Swim League for dual meet competition and our USA Swim Team is a CT/USA swim club that competes in USA sanctioned swim meets. Participation in WRST / CT Yankee league dual meet team competition, both home and travel, is a requisite for membership. USA meet participation is elective and allows swimmers to compete in USA sanctioned events. Particpation on the USA team is based on Coaches' invitation only.
CT Yankee League dual meet competition encourages children to reach their highest potential both individually and as a contributor to a team; both as a swimmer and as a person. USA swimming encourages swimmers to compete at the highest individual level they can achieve.
How We Do It:
Each year a limit on number of participants will be established not to exceed 150 children, with tryouts conducted as necessary based on applicant numbers and age group divisions / ability distribution. Practice structure will be by ability and/or age group divisions at Coach's discretion. Swim meet events will be determined by the Coach for the age group based on the swimmers ability. Parent participation in events is integral in the program.
