Where Your Race Starts

The USA Swimming Safe Sport program focuses on abuse prevention in the sport of swimming. This abuse prevention program incorporates many factors including policies, guidelines, training, education, screening, monitoring and responding. Every USA Swimming member plays a role in this effort.

A Safe Sport Recognized Club

Since 2010, USA Swimming member clubs have consistently embraced Safe Sport abuse prevention measures and educational resources. The Safe Sport Recognized Club Program (SSRP) allows a club to publicly demonstrate its unwavering commitment to creating an abuse-free, safe, healthy and positive environment for all its members through the implementation of the Minor Athlete Abuse Prevention Policy, anti-bullying measures, Safe Sport Best Practices and Athlete Protection Training. Safe Sport Recognized Clubs earn a badge to display on their website, and these clubs are designated as Safe Sport Recognized in the USA Swimming Find-A-Club online tool.

What's Involved?

Policies, Procedures, and Best Practices: Clubs share their Athlete Protection Policies and the other ways their club is structured to safeguard members.

Personnel: A big part of successfully implementing Safe Sport is getting the right people involved. Clubs demonstrate the screening and selection procedures for staff and volunteers.

Training and Education: Clubs are awarded points for having athletes and parents complete the Safe Sport online courses, as well as hosting in-person Safe Sport training.

Reporting: Clubs demonstrate how they communicate to their members about reporting to USA Swimming Safe Sport and the US Center for SafeSport.
