Evaluation Request and Team Placement

All prospective swimmers who wish to join Tsunamis Swim Team must participate in a new swimmer evaluation conducted by a member of the coaching staff before registering. This evaluation process allows our coaching staff to place swimmers in the appropriate practice group based on age and current skill level.

Note: No evaluation is required for swim lessons. If your swimmer is not ready for the team, we recommend starting with lessons.

Step 1: Is my swimmer ready for an evaluation?

Before requesting an evaluation, please answer the following:

     1. Is your swimmer at least 4 years old and able to swim?

     2. Can your swimmer demonstrate the minimum required skills for their age group?

Evaluation Requirements/Procedures:

·  Swimmers Ages 4 - 6 Must be able to;

• 50 meters freestyle unassisted
• 25 meters backstroke unassisted
• 25 meters breaststroke
• 15 meters butterfly

·  Swimmers ages 7 - 8 Must be able to swim;

• 75 meters freestyle
• 50 meters backstroke
• 50 meters breaststroke
• 25 meters butterfly

·  Swimmers ages 9 - 11 Must be able to swim;

• 100 meters freestyle
• 75 meters backstroke
• 75 meters breaststroke
• 50 meters butterfly

·  Swimmers ages 12 and up Must be able to swim;

• 150 meters freestyle
• 100 meters backstroke
• 100 meters breaststroke
• 50 meters butterfly

Step 2: What’s the Next Step for Your Swimmer?

After reviewing the evaluation requirements, choose the option that best fits your swimmer:

Option 1: After reviewing the requirements list, I think my swimmer IS ready for an evaluation.

• Great! Please complete our Evaluation Request Form, and a coach will contact you via email to schedule your swimmer’s evaluation.

  Evaluations are by appointment only.

Days/Times Available: Tuesday, Thursday at 4:00pm

                                       Wednesday at 4:30pm or 5:00pm   

Location: Township Aquatic Center

Option 2: I feel my swimmer may need a little more work prior to joining the team. 

That’s totally okay! We offer pre-competitive swim lessons designed to help swimmers build confidence and develop the skills needed for the team.

• Lessons provide one-on-one instruction

• Perfect for swimmers who need more time before joining a team environment

Step 3: Receive the Evaluation Results.

After your swimmer completes their evaluation, a coach will follow up with you via email. Based on the evaluation, you will receive one of the following outcomes:

• Outcome 1: Ready to Join the Team

Your swimmer is ready to join Tsunamis Swim Team and will be assigned to a practice group based on age and skill level.

• Outcome 2: Ready, but Waitlisted

Your swimmer meets the requirements but will be placed on a waitlist because their assigned practice group is currently full. We'll notify you as soon as a spot becomes available.

• Outcome 3: Needs More Practice

Your swimmer needs to develop a few more skills before joining the team.
Their evaluation results will be shared with our Swim Academy so they can get start improving right away!

Transfer
If your swimmer is transferring from another local team, we ask that you talk to your former team about the reasons prompting your change before making a decision to join Tsunamis Swim Team. While we believe that we offer an outstanding program, we also wish to be good citizens of USA Swimming and maintain our good relationships with the other teams.
