Find Your Cue and Use It to Swim Fast It seems so easy to swim fast when you’re on and everything is flowing. If only you could do it every time and swim on cue. Well, you can. Here’s how: Be in Focus Before you race, think about what makes you swim fast; don’t think about whether you’ll win or lose. Otherwise, you’ll get to the blocks too uptight to perform your best. Swimming fast is a direct result of staying calm and loose. Empty Your Head If you’re the...
Good Reasons Why You Should Get in the Pool A few years back, United States Masters Swimming issued a press release reminding those with active lifestyles that swimming can be a "rigorous, effective fitness workout—and be fun in the process." While this may seem obvious to habitual swimmers, there are athletes out there who think pools are strictly child’s play or summer fun. There is also a widely circulated fallacy that swimming is not an effective form of weight loss. Throughout the year, many American Red Cross, YMCA, and Jewish...
Test Your Swimming Smarts By Daryn Eller Swimming myths can circulate faster than chlorinated water in a pool. The trouble with myths is, once you've heard them over and over, they start to sound like the truth - even when they're not. "My favorite myth is that eating Jell-O powder before a race gives you quick energy" says Jackie Berning, R.D., Ph.D., a nutrition consultant to USA Swimming. "People come up to me at meets with red and green fingers they've been dipping into the powder. The truth is that...

The dolphin is only about ten days old. Richard Tesore, head of the NGO Rescate Fauna Marina, has been caring for tiny animal in Piriapolis, 62 miles east of the capital, Montevideo. And while his cute charge...
Help Preserve College Swimming for When YOU (or your child) Goes to College! It’s no secret that college swimming has been “under the gun” due to college budget cuts in recent decades. We want to let NCAA Division I Presidents/Chancellors and Athletic Directors know that there is a large, vibrant, energetic and committed swimming community in the USA that appreciates the fact that THEIR University has kept swimming alive and well at their institutions. AND let them know that we want them to continue that support, and that our Children...
