Sarasota Shark Swim School FAQ
What should my child wear and bring to class?
Please dress your child in comfortable, non-restrictive swimwear. As an outdoor facility, rash guards are a great option during cooler months if they fit well. Bring shoes, a towel, and warm clothes for after class. Goggles aren’t required, but they’re helpful! Apply sunscreen before class—no spray sunscreen allowed. All swimmers must be potty trained—no swim diapers permitted. If your child needs restroom help, you may escort them to the pavilion bathrooms. Per USA Swimming Safe Sport rules, adults are not allowed in locker rooms with minors, and showers are unavailable. Thanks for helping us keep things safe, fun, and organized!
How long will it take my child to learn how to swim?
The Sarasota Sharks Swim School follows a step-by-step progression—from water comfort to stroke technique—tailored to each child’s individual development. Every swimmer moves at their own pace, and that’s perfectly okay! You’ll receive regular updates on your child’s progress, and if you have questions, feel free to chat with the Site Supervisor.
What should I do in the event of Inclement weather?
Rain won’t stop us—but lightning will. Our state-of-the-art Thor Guard system ensures we monitor conditions closely for everyone’s safety. Stay updated by following us on Instagram: @Sarasota_Sharks. That’s where we post real-time weather delays and cancellations first. If there's a delay, please wait in your car until it's safe to return to the pool deck. In the event of a weather-related cancellation, Swim School participants will be offered one (1) make-up class per session (month). No additional make-up classes or credits will be provided for weather or other missed classes.
What if my child is ill or we have an emergency, and cannot make the class?
We understand that emergencies happen, especially with kids. If your child isn’t feeling well, please keep them home—for their well-being, and out of respect for instructors and fellow swimmers.
Do you offer classes for Adult Learn to Swim?

Refunds
Swim School classes are offered in monthly sessions, and registration is non-refundable. We ask that you commit to the full month. We understand that life happens and classes may occasionally be missed—that’s okay! Progress isn’t always linear. Just bring your swimmer back for the next session and keep moving forward. Please note that we do not offer partial or full refunds for missed classes.
