Aulea Weekly Update

Joe Glenn

Aloha all,

We had a GREAT day 1 of the Aulea Winter Festival with the distance events.  When all was said and done we avoided most of the rain, and Aulea swimmers combined to make 11 new Champs times!  As this is the last chance for many of our swimmers to race at 14-nder champs this was a great start to the meet.  Day 2 begins today and we are full steam ahead (as long as the weather permits) to race both prellims and finals.

I just emailed out sign ups for junior age group champs.  This meet is for 18-under swimmer and is a championship meet.  Please read the meet notice carefully.  Swimmers must have at least one A time to compete.  The ,meet notice also says "Athletes who have achieved the Hawaiian Swimming ‘CHMP’ time standard of their age group in THREE (3) OR MORE individual events, in any course, ARE NOT eligible to enter or compete in the meet."  Sign ups are due in two weeks.  The meet will be tons of fun and a great developmental opportunity for swimmers.

Our other march meet is the Kona Spring Invite.  As a reminder our travel dates are March 17 (leave Honolulu) to March 22 (return to Honolulu).  A more detailed itinerary will be sent out in the next couple of weeks.

Also, there is a meet next weekend at UH (02/15).  This meet will have a SR-B session first followed by a distance session.  Swimmers coming off of High school champs are encouraged to swim the senior meet or distance meet (pick one or two events that you aren't swimming at high school champs).  Deadline to sign up is 11:00 PM tonight.

We will be on our regular weekly schedule this week and are hoping for no pump or electrical issues this week and some sunny skies to heat up the pool a bit.  Bronze will be at Kokokahi on M/W and intro is on their new schedule.

Finally, we have over 20 swimmers representing 5 high schools competing in Hilo next weekend at the HHSAA champs.  Best of luck to our high school swimmers as they represent their school teams!

Happy Streamlines and Gooooo Aulea!

Coach Joe
