News - Hot off the Presses!

Annual Coaches Certification Requirements, Registration Information and Approved Class List Updated September, 2025

  • All coaches should be current in all required certifications before coaching a practice or meet.
  • Registrations are free until December 1.
  • Starting with the 2023-24 season, registrations submitted after December 1 will be charged $100 to the coach’s YMCA. If a coach is hired after December 1, contact your regional representative and complete registration as soon as possible.
  • Coach registration provides local YMCAs and meet directors a way to verify that coaches are certified.
  • Coach registration also provides contact information so that all coaches receive regular communication about YMCA swimming throughout the year.

Child and Athlete Protection Training Requirement Updated September, 2025

  • Starting with the 2025-26 season, adult athletes 17.5 and over are required to complete an approved child or athlete protection training prior to participating in the meet and every 12 months.
  • This training can be completed in one of two ways:
    • ​Self-paced online course through USA Swimming University (must create an account, register, and complete the course.)
    • USA Swimming University landing page to find the online version of the course https://university.usaswimming.org/landing
    • Attend an online course on Zoom led by USA Swimming Safe Sport Staff.

Rules That Govern YMCA Competitive Sports
 Updated October, 2025
     There are two additions and several rules around which existing lanuage was strengthened or clarified. Please make particular note of the following:

  • League governance and representation – p. 3
  • YMCA eligibility – p. 4
  • Use of YMCA name in team name, and registration with USA Swimming – pgs. 4 and 9
  • YMCA’s responsibility and coach eligibility under YMCA Child Protection Standards – p. 5
  • Athlete eligibility and competition category at YMCA national competitive events – p. 6
  • Management of championship meet funds – p. 8
  • A webinar will be held on Nov. 18 at 1:00 pm (EST) to review the Rules That Govern and answer questions. Link HERE.

Sanctioned Meet Declaration Form - Updated September, 2023

  • Remember to apply for a sanction no later than 60 days prior to the meet.
  • Meet directors have additional responsibilities this year in order to meet the requirements of a YMCA sanctioned meet.
  • If using a meet information template from your LSC, please read it carefully and:
    • Remove all language referencing a USA Swimming sanction and requirements around USA Swimming membership
    • Use the YMCA Sanctioned Meet Rules document (link above) and add all of the language required in order to receive a YMCA sanction – Do this prior to submitting your sanction request and sending out meet information to invited teams
  • Contact your regional representative with questions.

Sectional and State Qualification Process - Updated 2022

Addendum to the Above Sectional and State Qualification Process - Updated 2022
The above attached addendum details changes for the 2022-23 season. Below is a brief outline of those changes:

  • Sectional Meet: If a swimmer going into the Sectional Meet weekend wants to enter an event but has a Top 8 ranked time with the State, they can still swim that event, but must be marked with an "Exhibition" status and will not be award eligible. 

  • The 12-21 Age Group is being Split Out to 11-12 and 13-21 for the following events: 400 IM, 200 IM, 200 Breast, 200 Back, 200 Fly, and 500 Free. They will have their own event numbers and State Q Times

  • State Meet Relay Entries - Allowing for Non-Qualifying Relays: Teams that do not have a relay with a qualifying time in an appropriate age group, may may enter a relay without a Q time (no NTs allowed) as long as that relay includes at least one swimmer who is swimming an individual event at the State Meet. Please see the above attached for clarification of this rule.

Virtual Meet Information and Submission Instructions

2025 - 17th Annual YMCA Tom Warrick Virtual Meet - Posted September, 2025

Dates for the competition:

  • September 26th - November 2nd, 2025
  • December 1st - December 14th, 2025 (These dates are only for states in which High School rules prohibit participation in club meets during the High School season.)

             -> This meet counts as one of your swimmers 3 Closed YMCA Meets for the season and gets included in the
                  weekly posted Top 20 Times.
