School Age Lessons (ages 4-12)

School age lessons are designed for swimmers ages 4-12 to teach swim skills from floating and breath control up to competitive strokes. Classes meet 1X/week for 30 min with a 2:1 ratio. 

 

 

Intro to Water Skills - Get Your Boat to Float

 

  • Nose bubbles
  • Submerging comfortably under the water
  • Floating on back/front independently
  • Gliding on back/front independently

 

 

Level 1 - Attaching the Motor

  • Kicking unassisted on back
  • Kicking unassisted on front with face in water
  • Building breath control while kicking on front
  • Elementary backstroke

 

 

 

 

Level 2 - Grab Your Oars

  • Backstroke arms
  • Freestyle arms
  • Rolling from front to back to breathe
  • Streamline arms when pushing off the wall
  • Sitting dives

 

 

 

 

 Level 3 - Navigating the Waters

 

  • Swim backstroke 25 yards
  • Swim freestyle 25 yards rolling onto back for air
  • Treading in the deep end
  • Kneeling Dives

 

 

 

Level 4 - Set Your Course

  • Side breathing in freestyle
  • Competition backstroke and freestyle strokes
  • Butterfly kick
  • Breaststroke kick
  • Standing dives

 

 

At the completion of Level 4, swimmers will have to set their course and choose which path they would like to take next.

Swimmers wishing to join our USA Swimming team will move onto our preteam class, Charting for Competition, to work

on competitive swimming strokes needed to transition to the team. Swimmers not wanting to swim competitively, but still

wanting to continue with lessons will move onto Open Water Explorer. This class will continue to work on building endurance

for lap swimming as well as learning different strokes and skills to help pass swim tests for Scouts or lifeguarding.

 

PreTeam - Charting for Competition (ages 9-14)

Charting for Competition is our class for swimmers ages 9-14 looking to transition from lessons to the USA Swimming team (ages 8&U transition after Level 4). To enter this class,

students must be able to swim 25 yards freestyle with side breathing, 25 yards backstroke, have a propulsive legal breaststroke/butterfly kick, and be able to do a standing

dive from the wall. This class meets 1X/week for an hour and is 8:1 ratio.

 

 

  • Building endurance to swim 100 yards backstroke
  • Building endurance to swim 50-100 yards freestyle
  • Full stroke butterfly and breaststroke
  • Flip turns/open turns
  • Standing dives from the block
  • Lane etiquette, circle swimming, reading a clock/drill set

 

 

 

 

Open Water Explorer (ages 8-19)

Open Water Explorer is for swimmers who completed Level 4 but do not wish to join a competitive swim team. This class continues to work on building endurance in swimming laps, increase

stamina for treading, learning survival strokes, and building swim skills to be able to pass a Scout swim test or the swim test for lifeguarding certification. Students must be able to swim 25 yards

freestyle, 25 yards backstroke, and be safe in the deep end without a coach in the water with them to register.

Open Water Explorer - Skipper (ages 8-13)

  • Endurance to swim 100 yards freestyle
  • Breaststroke
  • Sidestroke
  • Elementary Backstroke
  • Surface Dives

 

Open Water Explorer - Captain (ages 14-19)

  • Endurance to swim 200 yards freestyle
  • Breaststroke
  • Sidestroke
  • Elementary Backstroke
  • Surface Dives
  • Tread for 2 mins using only legs
