Coach Tony started competitive swimming his freshman year at Tyrone Area high school. He is a multi-time State qualifier and after graduating, he attended Duquesne University with the intention of swimming mid distance free. After an injury sidelined his freshman season, he transferred to Lock Haven University to run track.
While living in Lock Haven, Tony worked as an assistant coach for the LHU women’s team and head coach of both the Lock Haven YMCA and Central Mountain high school swim team. He is a 1999 graduate of LHU with a BS in Business Management; Economics & Finance, with a minor in Coaching.
In 2019, he accepted a position as the assistant coach of the Bellefonte High School swim team, and a year later, was promoted to head coach. Over his four seasons as head coach, the Bellefonte girls won four straight district team championships.
After getting to experience NLAC on the parent side of things through his daughter Evelyn, he eagerly accepted a coaching position with the club in August. Tony hopes to share his knowledge and love of the sport with the next generation of swimmers!
Ryan is a Pennsylvania native who swam at Bloomsburg University before eventually starting his coaching career at the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Virginia and with the Rappahannock Area YMCA Swim Team in Stafford, VA. Ryan was a part of the Metropolitan Swimming Conference Women’s Coaching Staff of the Year in 2022 and 2023 after guiding the team to two straight conference championships. The team then transitioned to the New Jersey Athletic Conference where the women's team again won the championship title and was the coaching staff of the year for 2024. Ryan then moved to the State College area where he coached the Penn State Swimming team for the 2024-2025 season. Ryan has also helps coach the University of Virginia swim camps each summer.
Outside of the pool, Ryan likes to read, play games, and watch TV with his wife, Lauren. Ryan also has a cat named Mika. He is excited to be a part of the NLAC coaching staff!
Melinda was born in State College and started swimming year round at age eight. She began competing at USA meets at age 10 and soon moved to Baltimore. Swimming for NBAC, Melinda's specialties were 200 Fly, 200/500 Free and anchoring the relays. After competing at Zone, Junior, Senior meets, she was part of the 7-member women's team from NBAC which won back-to-back Senior National championship titles. Melinda and her teammates were inducted into the Maryland Swimming Hall of Fame in 2018. Melinda swam for Penn State and then competed post-college in regional triathlons.
As a teen and young adult, Melinda taught swim lessons and stroke clinics part time for 9 years. She then worked regularly with youth both in professional and volunteer capacities, finally returning to school to become a Licensed Massage Therapist and work with both recreational and professional athletes.
Prior to joining NLAC, Melinda merged her love of swim and working with youth and coached for the Y. She looks forward to continuing to develop swimmers across many levels. She believes that because competitive swimming builds personal depth, resilience and fortitude, it gives students great opportunities and skills both for the "now" but also for the rest of their life!
Melinda is excited to help the swimmers develop as athletes and people, and she is excited to share the joys of learning, training and racing!
Away from the pool, Melinda loves, hiking, reading, learning about other cultures, board games and she is always up for a good riddle. Melinda and her husband Ryan live in State College with their 5 children.
My connection to State College swimming is deeply personal. I grew up in State College and joined the summer swim league at an early age. I started swimming year-round in elementary school and swam at YMCA District, State, and National Championships.
At the age of 10, I began swimming at USA Swimming meets. I participated in local and regional meets including Junior Olympics. Once in high school, I joined the State College High School Team where I swam at PIAA District Championships and PIAA State Championships.
I attended Penn State and swam for the women's varsity swim team while pursuing another passion of mine—teaching children! I earned my degree in elementary education and have put my education to good use—both at home and on the pool deck.
As a high schooler, I began teaching swimming lessons, and in college I began coaching the Welch Swim Team. I returned to coaching at Welch in 2015 after our family returned to State College, and in 2017 I began coaching the State College Area High School Swim Team. Prior to joining the NLAC coaching staff, I was the head coach for the State College YMCA.
Besides spending time at the pool, I love being with my family! We have five children who also enjoy swimming and spending time at the pool (I'm sure you'll meet them around the pool deck).
I love swimming, and I want each team member to enjoy swimming! As a life-long sport, swimming provides each swimmer with the ability to grow and improve—regardless of their experience level or age. I want to see each swimmer improving—both in the water and personally. I want them to become better athletes while also growing as individuals. I want them to succeed, and to be the best they can be!
I'm excited to be part of the NLAC coaching staff and look forward to working with our swimmers to help them achieve their personal goals and keep improving each day.

Kelli began swimming at seven years old and continued USA
swimming through college. She competed throughout Pittsburgh at
local Allegheny Mountain swim meets, Zones, Junior and Senior
Nationals. She came to Happy Valley to compete for the
Nittany Lions. She concluded her swimming career at the
US Olympic Trials.
Despite success in the pool, some of her proudest accomplishments
stem from being a student-athlete. She was an Academic
All-American, All Big Ten, part of Spiritus Leoninus Honor Society,
multi-year recipient of the Karen Walizer Service Award, and was
part of executive council for the Penn State Student Athlete
Advisory Board.
Throughout summers in college and for many summers post
graduation, Kelli was part of Penn State University
working swim camps. She also was an assistant coach for State
College.
While she competed at Olympic Trials for Big Cat (NLAC), she is now
thrilled to be on deck and get to watch her own children grow and
develop through the program. Kelli hopes to help our
swimmers find joy in the sport through NLAC.

Hi! My name is Ben Musante and I’m from Hershey Pennsylvania. I attend Penn State University and am a rising senior majoring in Film Production. Throughout my 15+ year competitive swimming career, I have been an All-American, state championship finalist, and Division 1 swimmer here at PSU. Hi! My name is Toby Van Dyke. I grew up locally in State College, swimming for the Welch Sharks, YMCA, State High, and NLAC, before swimming 4 years for the University of Cincinnati, graduating in 2021. I specialized in mid-to-long distance freestyle and butterfly races. As an athlete, NLAC provided me with a safe, fun, competitive, and encouraging environment to pursue the sport I love to the best of my abilities, and develop and grow as a person. I have been coaching with NLAC's senior group off and on since 2023, aiming to utilize my experience and passion to work towards cultivating that same culture and environment, helping the athletes to create and seize opportunities, and achieve at the highest level.
