Metropolitan Swimming — Athlete Representative Elections 2026-2028 Term The Metropolitan Swimming LSC annually elects an Athlete Representative to serve on the Board of Directors and the Athletes Committee. Over 100 athletes competed at the 2023 Metro/NJ Open Water Championships on September 9, 2023 at Rye Town Beach in Rye, NY. Athletes from 15 teams across the Metro and New Jersey LSCs competed in the 1K, 3K, and 5K Open Water events. Congratulations to Sebastian Smith of Patriots Swim Team, and Drexel University Dragons Swimming on qualifying for the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Swimming Trials in the Men's 100 LCM Butterfly. Smith swam a 53.51 during the Friday night Finals at Senior Mets, and was the top seed after going 53.96 in the prelims. According to Patriots Head Coach Bob Vializ, Smith had previously been coached primarily by Marc Rizzo who passed away in March 2023. 11 Metro athletes competed in the 2023 USA Swimming Open Water National Championships in Sarasota, FL. The Championships were held at Nathan Benderson Park, a venue that has hosted the World Championships, US Olympic Team Trials, and NCAA Championships for rowing.
