Athletes must be able to swim a minimum of 50 yards freestyle and backstroke to enter program.

At Nebraska Aquatics, we group our swimmers by ability for practice sessions.

To find out what group your new swimmer will be in, you’ll need to have them tested by the coaches as they join the team. 

Practice Groups

Practice Expectations

Gray group

1 hour, up to 3 days/week

Grey group  is for stroke development and teaching all four competitive strokes, Individual Medley (IM), and starts and turns through positive reinforcement and immediate feedback. An important objective for this group is to develop a love for swimming. Swimmers are expected to continue developing self-discipline, respect for coaches and teammates, as well as age-appropriate social skills in a team environment.

Red Group 

1.5 hours, 3-4 days/week

Red group is for the beginning club swimmer that has an idea of what freestyle and backstroke is and have a good understanding of breaststroke and butterfly. This group will begin working on their endurance and becoming proficient in all four strokes. Flip turns will also be introduced.

Black Group 

2 hours, 4-5 days/week

Black group is for swimmers who know all four competitive strokes. Development of competitive stroke techniques will be enhanced as well as practice skills with interval training and overall endurance. Most will have competitive swimming experience and will learn to set goals.

White Group 

2 hours, 4-5 days/week

White group is for swimmers with a good knowledge of technique with mastery as the focus. Good attitude and discipline is expected. Main concentration will be placed on strength training and race planning for well-rounded swimmers with an emphasis on goals of local Championship level and beyond.
