Pre-Competitive Program
This program is for swimmers ages 4 to 14.

Ability to swim TWO FULL LAPS of freestyle.

Ability to swim TWO FULL LAPS of backstroke comfortably.
-
Ability to swim 25 yard freestyle in under one (1) minute.

Ability to get in and tread water at 12 feet of depth without the assistance of a landline, floatation device, or another swimmer.

Ability to withstand water temperatures as low as 78º F for an hour.
White Group:
The White group is This is a beginner group for children who know how to swim, but who need further technical training.
All four strokes will be performed by the end of the season but the primary focus on freestyle , backstroke, and developing a good base for kicking and body position in water.
This is an intermediate group that focuses on further developing Freestyle and Backstroke to a more advanced level. Swimmers become competition-ready in Butterfly, Breaststroke, and Individual Medley. Underwater dolphin kicking will also be introduced as well as flipturns.
Green Group:
The Green Group is an intermediate group that focuses on further developing Freestyle and Backstroke to a more advanced level. Swimmers become competition-ready in Butterfly, Breaststroke, and Individual Medley. Underwater dolphin kicking will also be introduced as well as flipturns.
Age Group Competitive Program
Swimmers in this division are learning to convert fundamental swimming skills into fundamental racing skills. A division wide goal is to swim with enthusiasm and participate in the creation of a fun-filled environment that fosters a passion for the sport.
All ECA Age Group Competitive Swimmers are highly encouraged to be competing in USA Swimming competitions during the season.
As with the Senior Program, this large group of athletes is broken up into 3 sub groups: Gold, Silver and Bronze.
Bronze:
The Bronze group swimmers know all four strokes and are developing their understanding of basic training concepts. Emphasis of this group is building aerobic endurance, learning to race and continuing to improve on the technical aspects of each stroke and its related skills like starts, turns and finishes. Bronze level swimmers are encouraged to attend at least 60% of practices weekly. Technical swimming is still the main focus of this group.
Silver:
The Silver group swimmers are learning to train at greater distances and intensity levels than the Bronze group. Emphasis of this group is training through sets that require a higher level of difficulty and intensity while maintaining a focus on technique and skill. The ability to make technical changes within challenging sets is required. Silver level swimmers are strongly encouraged to attend at least 70% of practices weekly and attend all qualified championship competitions. All Silver group swimmers should have a goal to transition to the Gold group.
Gold:
The Gold group swimmers are elite age group athletes that are preparing to train at the standards necessary to help them transition successfully into Senior program and beyond. Emphasis of this group is progressing the level of technique, endurance and racing skills for competition at the highest-level meets. Gold swimmers are required to attend at least 75% of practices weekly and attend all qualified championship competitions.
Senior Competitive Program
The Senior Division welcomes athletes of all abilities and goals, ranging from recreational swimming, high school swimming and Sectionals, Futures and Junior National qualifiers. Expectations among each division build upon each other, with the goal of creating the proper progression for athletes to move through the program based upon their respective goals.
Senior 1:
The Senior 1 group is for athletes who are High School athletes that may be newer to swimming or too busy for a full workload. The group offers 6 swim practices per week. Athletes do not have an expectation for the number of practices attended but we see large improvements the more they attend.
Senior 2:
The Senior 2 group is for athletes who are qualified for, and training to compete at Junior Olympics, Senior States and Sectionals. The Group offers 11 swim practices per week, with 2 additional dryland sessions. Athletes are expected to attend a large majority of practices, and are encouraged to attend dryland workouts to complement in-water training.
Senior 3:
Senior 3 is the highest group at the East Carolina Aquatics. This group offers 11 swim practices per week, with 3 additional weights/dryland sessions. The Senior 3 group trains to compete at Sectionals, Futures and Junior National Meets. Athletes are expected to attend a large majority of practices, and are encouraged to attend dryland workouts to complement in-water training.
