Coaches and Directors
Starting with the program in 2004 as a head age group coach, and being appointed the CEO of in 2006, Coach Casey has fostered a meteoric rise in not only the number of swimmers on the team, but the success of those swimmers at championship meets. During his tenure, ECA has fostered an environment that has produced NCS Team State Titles, Junior National Champions, World Ranked Athletes, multiple top 15 team finishes at national competitions, and an Olympic gold medalist - Lauren Perdue (2012).
Coach Casey stresses personal accountability, time management, and an arduous work ethic with all of his swimmers. Structure, progression, and adaptation with a process dictates outcome approach are staples in his swimming philosophy, which instructs the overall goals and mindset of ECA.
As a swimmer, Coach Casey enjoyed success throughout his 18 year career in which he set over 50 club team and 10 high school records in West Palm Beach, FL. As a result of his success, Coach Casey was awarded a scholarship to swim for East Carolina University where he helped the Pirates to runner-up team finishes in the 2001, 2002, and 2003 Conference Championships. During the 2000-2001 season Coach Casey was awarded the Rookie of the Year award for the team’s top performer as a freshman. He is also a former Conference USA and ECU varsity record holder in the 4 x 200 Freestyle Relay. Coach Casey holds a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and a Master's Degree in High School English. He is currently an English Teacher at an area high school.
Doug was a member of the Gators from the age of 13 and worked his way to being a prominent member of the Senior team. In highschool he was a two time State Champion in the 100 Breaststroke in addition to a title in the 200 IM. He earned a spot on the ECU swim team and competed for the Pirates as 4 year Letterwinner specializing in Breastroke events.
Coach Doug has been coaching with the Gators for the past decade and has become of staple of the program. He also had a successful career as an assistant coach with ECU Swimming during which time they won 2 conference championships and sent multiple swimmers to NCAAs.
Doug brings experience, knowledge, enthusiasm, and a love for the sport to ECA.
Claudio L .Battaglini, PhD, FACSM is a Professor of Exercise and
Sport Science (Exercise Physiology Specialization) at the
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr.
Battaglini received his BS degree from the Catholic University
of Brasilia Brazil (1992) and his MA (1999) and PhD from the
University of Northern Colorado in 2004. Dr. Battaglini’s
research focuses on the effects of acute and chronic exercise
on physiological, psychological, and physical functioning in
cancer patients. He directs the Exercise Oncology
Research Laboratory (EORL) and the Get REAL &
HEEL Breast Cancer Rehabilitation Program and over the past 10
years, Dr. Battaglini has published over 220 journal articles and
scientific abstracts and 5 textbooks chapters related to
exercise oncology. Dr. Battaglini was the 2017 recipient of
the Lifetime Distinguished Leadership Award in Sports and Health
at Dana-Faber/Harvard Cancer Institute, Harvard Medical Center
for his research in exercise oncology, the 2015 UNC C. Knox
Massey Distinguished Service Awards and the Office of the
Provost Engaged Scholarship Award for Research, 2010 the Tanner
Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching and Mentoring
presented by the University of North
Carolina Chapel Hill College of Arts and Sciences. Prior to Dr.
Battaglini’s involvement in
exercise oncology research, he was an international level endurance
sports coach, with
some of his athletes achieving World Champion status, Pan-American
Champion status,
and Olympic Game appearances. Currently he coaches some Elite
swimmers who are
nationally ranked, including a National Team member.
Randy Jarman is the Head Site Coach for Morehead City, NC. He brings over 30 years of coaching experience which span over the age group, senior, collegiate and Masters levels.
Randy first got into coaching at age 19 with his hometown club
in Kinston, NC. During the 4 year stint he completed his associates
degree and transfered to East Carolina University. Randy completed
his Bachlors degree from East Carolina in 1998 and went on to
enter graduate school that same year. From 1998 to 2000, Randy
served as a graduate assistant for the Pirates' Mens and Womens
swim teams. He specialized in sprinters and coached the teams
only NCAA qualifier.
After graduation, Randy accepted a teaching postion in Shelby, NC
where he taught AP Psychology and World Geography. As the
Shelby High Scools head swim coach, He led the mens team to a
Highschool State Championship.
In 2002, Randy joined the University of North Carolina Tarheels
where he specialized in sprinters and breast strokers. During
this period Jarman was able to coach two 2004 Olympic Trial
qualifiers, three ACC champions, four All-Americans, and
eleven senior national qualifiers. Randy was also the Head
Age Group coach of the North Carolina Aquatic Club where he
led them to a second place team finish at the 2003 NC 14 and
under State Championships.
Jarman was the Head Coach for Radford University's Womens Swimming
and Diving team from 2007 to 2012. While in Radford Virginia,
Randy led the small womens team to a 5th place finish in the
CCSA confernce championships.
Jarman joined East Carolina Aquatics in 2014 and has seen over 11 kids go on and compete in Division one collegiate sports.
As a swimmer Randy was a NC High School state champion and record holder in the 50 free and runner up in the 100 free. Jarman made Junior National cuts in both the 50free (yards) and 100 free (meters).
Cameron was an ECA swimmer growing up in Morehead City, N.C. During his time as a Gator, he participated in multiple Senior State Championships and focused mostly on freestyle and butterfly.
In addition to swimming, Cameron ran cross country and track
throughout his high school years and eventually focused on
running. He graduated from West Carteret High School in 2019
and attended UNC Asheville where he ran Division 1 cross country
and
track.
Cameron graduated from UNC Asheville in May 2023 with a degree
in history and is currently a graduate student working on an
M.A.T. (Master of Arts in Teaching) with a concentration in
secondary social studies. Upon completion, Cameron hopes to
teach
high school history and coach.
In his free time, Cameron enjoys running, swimming, and weightlifting. His knowledge of cross-training, experience running at the collegiate level, and passion for coaching make him a valuable asset to the team.
Cameron’s goal as a coach is to help swimmers become confident in their abilities, improve technique, instill the value of a hard work ethic, and promote teamwork.
