The Barracudas attended the Monster Splash at Berkeley Aquatics in New Providence over the weekend, proving they’ve dusted off the cobwebs and are prepared for some scary-good times this season. The meet was long course, testing the 33 attending NJB swimmers’ early-season training and mental toughness. They proved both with ‘Cudas earning top places and Career Best Times in the process. It is not customary for swimmers to achieve best times early in the season, and certainly not common in long course meets. Despite that, 65 swims were (converted) Career...
Two of our swimmers joined some of the top swimmers in the northeast this past week, competing at the Eastern Zones Senior Championships at the Burt Flickinger Athletic Center in Buffalo, NY. Swimmers’ ages ranged from 14-32 years old and included club and collegiate swimmers from Maine to Maryland. Samantha Russell and Jake Riva made us proud as the announcer bellowed “...from the North Jersey Barracudas!” from the natatorium’s PA system throughout the 4 day meet. Both swimmers did fantastic. Qualifying in 4 events, Sam started Wednesday’s prelims off with...
We are proud of our swimmers who qualified for and competed at this season’s Long Course Junior Olympics at Rutgers last weekend. Jake Riva swam the 50 Free, placing 10th, and a 23rd spot in his 100 Fly during Prelims. Both swims were Career Best times for him in long-course. Sam Russell also had a great weekend, swimming the 50 Free, 100 Back, and 100 Fly, swimming Career Bests in the latter two. Jordan Maruska handled a heavy load with ease, dominating her 100 and 200 Breast, 200 IM, 400...
When 7-year-old Nathaniel Kern finished first in his heat of the 100 Back, he slapped the water and raised his pointer in the air. “I feel like a professional!”, he explained to Coach Julie afterward. That excitement permeated throughout the weekend by our swimmers at the NJ Swimming Silver/Bronze Championships at Berkeley Aquatic Center. Leading the way for NJB was Sean Sharma and Jordan Maruska. Jordan took two First Places (100 Breast, 200 Free) and four other Top-8 finishes at the meet, while earning a JO time in her 100...

Our 14&Unders built upon the success of our older swimmers with some great performances at the New Jersey Swimming Junior Olympics held at Rutgers over the weekend. Our three qualifying swimmers’ 15 splashes resulted in 12 Career Best Times, 3 scoring places, 23 team points, and about 48 seconds of improved time! Not a bad weekend for the ladies. Jillian Berg (13) had a fantastic swim in her 100 Fly, dropping over a second from her Career Best Time of 1:04.41 to a 1:03.29. Jordan Maruska (13) had an awesome...
Four of our senior swimmers help put us on the map this weekend with some stellar swims at the NJ Swimming Senior Championships at the Peddie School in Hightstown, NJ. Their 28 splashes earned them 12 trips to finals, 13 Career Best Times, and 9 Speedo Sectional cuts. Jake Leddy got the ball rolling with the tough 1000 Free on Thursday night. Despite an illness-induced break from his taper, he held a great pace for all 20 of his 50s dropping almost ten seconds off his seed time. Andrea Carlson,...
