To become a USA Swimming Official!
Reasons to Become an Official:
- You’ll be working with the greatest group of volunteers in all sports.
- You’ll be close to the action.
- The bleachers aren’t comfortable anyway!
- High satisfaction; low pay.
- It’s a great way to meet future Olympians—unless you already have one in your home
- Great food in hospitality
- You can’t beat the price!

Becoming an USA Swim official
1 – Read more about it USA Swim Official Info and North Texas LSC Swim Official Info. You can start as a Stroke and Turn Official or as an Administrative Official.
2 – Attend a Stroke & Turn Clinic. This will give you an idea the importance of parent participation as an Official. When they are available these are posted on the North Texas Swimming website under the “Officials Section” NT LSC Officials Calendar NT LSC Officials Calendar
3 – Register with USA swimming. You can follow similar steps when you registered your athete but choose "non-athlete" and "official" as you go through registration. You can do this from the same parent account you created when registerting your athete. Please use our team OMR link to register. Detailed instrutions for athlete registration available in Step 3 on our How to Join page. Your registration fees will be reimbursed by the team. Email Lisa Steed to be reimbursed.
4 – Do a background check, this will be the Level 2 check. Here is the link, just follow the instructions for becoming an Official. The initial background check will cost $39 but once completed you will be reimbursed, keep you receipt of payment. Background Checks
5 – Complete the Athlete protection education. This will take about 45 minutes - 1 hour, no cost. Safe Sport

7 – Take the Stroke & Turn Officials test and pass (Open Book) go to USA Swimming > Testing & Certification Sign up for Tests
