DALLAS MUSTANGS CODE OF CONDUCT

 

Swimmers. The undersigned agree to abide by the standards of conduct outlined below in addition to those established in connection with any travel or other team activity.  The Dallas Mustangs is an organization that believes that honesty, integrity, character, good sportsmanship and teamwork are core values.  Membership on the team is a privilege that is conditioned upon compliance with this Code of Conduct. 

 

  1.  I will show respect and common courtesy to my coaches, officials, teammates and fellow competitors.
  2.  I will show respect for and attempt to maintain all equipment and facilities and any other property during practice, swim meets or any team function.
  3. I will respect the property of others.  I understand that theft or vandalism of any type is not acceptable behavior.  I understand that I am responsible for any damage that I cause.
  4.  I will refrain from using alcohol and tobacco unless I am of age.  I will never use illegal drugs or performance enhancing drugs of any type.
  5. I will demonstrate good sportsmanship at all practices and meets.
  6. I will set a good example of behavior and work ethic for my younger teammates.
  7. I will be respectful of my teammates’ feelings and personal space.  Swimmers who exhibit sexist, racist, homophobic, or otherwise inappropriate behavior will be faced with consequences.
  8. I will show respect for all facilities and other property (including locker rooms) used during practices, competitions, and team activities.
  9. I will refrain from foul language, violence, behavior deemed dishonest, offensive, or illegal.
  10. If I disagree with an official’s call, I will talk with my coach and not approach the official directly.
  11. I will obey all of USA Swimming’s rules and codes of conduct.

 

I understand that failure to follow these rules may result in disciplinary action including, but not limited to, (1) verbal counseling and warning; (2) a period of probation; (3) a period of suspension from the team; or (4) expulsion from membership, with no refund of dues that may have been paid in advance.  Disciplinary decisions will be made by the coach in charge of the swimmer or the Head Coach as appropriate.  A swimmer may appeal any disciplinary decision other than verbal counseling or a warning to the Head Coach unless the Head Coach has instituted the discipline.  If (1) the Head Coach has instituted the discipline or (2) the Head Coach has made a decision on any appeal regarding discipline instituted by the coach in charge of the swimmer, then the swimmer may appeal the decision to an executive committee of the Board of Directors composed of the Board President, Vice President and Treasurer.  The Board Secretary may be substituted for the Vice President or Treasurer, at the discretion of the Board President.   

 

Parent/Guardian.  As a parent of a Dallas Mustang swimmer, I understand that certain behaviors are required of my swimmer and myself in order to participate with the club.  I will always conduct myself appropriately and as an adult.  I will not interfere with the coaching of my swimmer during practices or meets.  I will raise any issues, concerns or questions with the coach at an appropriate time and in an appropriate manner.  I will treat the coaches and other parents of swimmers in the manner in which I would wish to be treated.  If I cannot conduct myself in this manner, I agree not to attend practices, swim meets or team functions.

 

  1. I will set the right example for our children by demonstrating sportsmanship and always showing respect and common courtesy to the team members, coaches, competitors, officials, parents, and all facilities.
  2. I will get involved by volunteering, observing practices, cheering at meets, and talking with my child and their coach about their progress.
  3. I will refrain from coaching my child from the stands during practices or meets.
  4. I understand that criticizing, name-calling, use of abusive language or gestures directed toward coaches, officials, volunteers, and/or any participating swimmer will not be tolerated.
  5. I will respect the integrity of the officials.
  6. I will direct my concerns to first to the swimmer’s coach; then, if not satisfied, to the Head Coach and then, if necessary, the club’s board.
  7. Parents who exhibit sexist, racist, homophobic, or otherwise inappropriate behavior will be faced with consequences.
