Division II HS State Championship Results
The OSSC was well-represented at the DII State Championships in Canton this weekend. We had 11 swimmers compete for their respective high schools in multiple individual and relay events.
In the 200 medley relay, freshman McKayla Moffat helped CSG to a third-place finish with one of the fastest backstroke splits (26.69) in the entire meet. Our men kept it going, as freshman Jacob Eismann and sophomore Max Dreisbach had huge splits to help their Columbus Academy team to a state runner-up finish.
After qualifying second in the 200 free (1:50.12), McKayla had a slight add to finish fourth (1:51.18) with limited rest after the 200 medley relay. On the men's side, sophomore Calvin Furbee continued his magical season to drop over two seconds from his district-winning swim and finish 10th in the 200 free at 1:44.80.
In the 200 IM, sophomore Laramie Reed finished in the 16th spot after qualifying for finals with a 2:09.70.
Junior Miranda Donley continued her winning streak in the 50 free, as she won another state championship at 23.12. While she was hoping to swim faster, she still scored huge points for her team and was able to enjoy another state championship swim. Miranda currently ranks 10th in Ohio swimming history in this event.
After the 15-minute break, our swimmers returned to compete in the 100 fly. Miranda had another strong swim to finish third with a slight add from last week (55.87). On the mens’ side, Max took control of the consol heat to touch first with a new best time of 52.31. Calvin also gained more valuable racing experience, recording his second finals swim and finishing 15th in 53.11.
One of the most exciting swims of the evening came from McKayla in the 100 free. She had a big time drop (50.74) and achieved a very rare freshman win at the state championships. McKayla’s CSG teammates kept the momentum going in the 200 free relay, as they won in 1:35.70 with a huge anchor leg from Miranda (22.82).
Our men were on fire in the 100 back, as Jacob (52.43) and Max (53.06) both swam to best times as they finished first and second in the consol final.
Laramie competed in her second individual final in the 100 breast. She had a slight add from her lifetime best qualifying time of 1:06.54, but she still finished eighth in the state with a strong swim.
The DII meet concluded with our OSSC women and men helping their teams in the 400 free relays. McKayla and Miranda helped CSG to a second-place finish which helped their team secure a third-place finish. Jacob and Max helped Columbus Academy to a seventh-place relay finish, which secured a sixth-place team finish.
In case you overlooked it, please note that none of these swimmers are seniors - all of them return next year! Congrats on your accomplishments! You can read more about the HS State Championships here.
