The OSSC Once Again Named A USA Swimming Silver Medal Club!

The Ohio State Swim Club Recognized as a Silver Medal Club on USA Swimming Club Excellence List

For the second consecutive year, the Ohio State Swim Club (“OSSC”) has been awarded the honor of a Silver medal ranking in the  USA Swimming Club Excellence program, recognizing the organization’s highest-performing clubs in the development of athletes 18 years and younger.

The OSSC had three current age group Olympic Trials qualifiers last summer (and 38 OT qualifiers with ties to the OSSC). We recently hosted the Speedo Winter Junior Championships-East and had 24 OSSC swimmers compete.

Although the OSSC is only in its eighth season, we are thrilled to be one of only six teams from Ohio Swimming to receive this distinction. The other teams from Ohio Swimming to be named to this program are: Northern Kentucky Clippers (Gold), Mason Manta Rays (Silver), Dayton Raiders (Silver), Cincinnati Marlins (Silver), and Upper Arlington (Silver).

In its 15th year, the Club Excellence program identifies clubs that execute strong, well-rounded programs to produce elite 18-and-under athletes. The top 20 clubs earn Gold level ranking and those rated 21-100 are designated as Silver honorees. The next 100 clubs are recognized at the Bronze level.

Nation’s Capital Swim Club was the top team in the rankings for the third year in a row with 89,635 points. The OSSC and Upper Arlington are the only two central Ohio teams to be named to the 2017 Club Excellence program.

“Earning a Gold, Silver or Bronze ranking has become a highly coveted honor for our club teams. The competition to earn a Club Excellence ranking continues to be more and more challenging,” said Pat Hogan, USA Swimming’s Club Development Managing Director. “On behalf of USA Swimming, I want to congratulate each of 200 clubs that have earned a ranking in the 2017 program.”

In addition to recognizing high-performing teams, the program provides grant funding that enable clubs to expand and enhance the services already provided to athletes. A total of $450,000 in grants will be distributed to the 100 Gold- and Silver-level clubs.
