NEWPORT SWIM TEAM IN ACTION 2/13/24
Over the weekend, on Sunday, Feb. 11th, 9 NST members were in action in Canby and Albany. 14 yr old Ruby Perucci competed at the CB Valentine Last Chance Invit in Canby, where 14 Oregon swim teams tookpart. She took 2nd in both the 100 and 200 Backstroke in the 13-14 girls division, being out-touched by 0.02 in the 100 Back. Great job Ruby!
At the AAA Final Countdown meet in Albany, 8 NST swimmers competed with 15 other Oregon swim teams and showed off their abilities. Out of 22 total swims, the Newport kids posted 20 personal best times!! No team scored were kept. Individually:
Skyla Chen, 12, posted 3 PR’s, took 1st in the 100 IM and posted 1 OSI A qualifying time. Note: Skyla raced in the 9 & Over division, racing girls as old as 17.
Zoey Chappell, 10, posted 3 PR’s, 3 qualifying times, her best finish was a 3rd in the 100 IM. Zoey also was in the 9 & Over and was the highest placing 10 yr old in all her races.
Hudson Cline, 12, posted 3 PR’s out of 3 races, with 2 8th place finishes, racing a number of older swimmers.
Levi Pettis, 11 posted 3 PR’s out of 3 races and a best finish of 13th in the 50 Backstroke.
Helen Faber, 8, posted 2 PR’s out of 3 races and took 6th in the 8 & Under 25 Backstroke.
Sitala Imbler-Bremner, 9, swam 3 PR’s out of 3 races
Aine Maher, 13, posted 2 PR;s out of 3 races
Charlotte Weinert, 9, posted 2 PR’s out of 2 races.
NST is next in action Feb. 17-18 at the Oregon Swimming 10 & Under State Short-Course Championships in Springfield.
