NST News:

SWIM-A-THON

Wow! What an amazing start to the 2024 NST Swim-a-Thon!  We are just shy of $1,500 in online donations (includes online donations and entered offline donations). I have been told many have cash donations that are not logged.  I would estimate our total to be $3,000-$4,000 already!  Way to go!

Our current online leader is Patti Parker with $800!

You are welcome to enter offline donations (cash/check).

  1. Click on the swim-a-thon on the top of the home page at www.newportswimteam.net.
  2. If you are logged in, this will bring you to your swimmer’s swim-a-thon account.
  3. There are buttons listed in the middle of the page, click .
  4. Please only log offline donations that are already received not pledges.
  5. You can see all results at the results tab on the same page.

PRACTICE/TEAMSNAP

As Shayna’s TeamSnap message stated, practice this week M-F is group practice with all groups at 4-5 p.m. and Senior group continues 5-6 p.m. Today is a fun day! I still show that not all NST families are linked to the TeamSnap app.  It is critical that you every family downloads the TeamSnap app. Shayna sends almost all her communications through this app.  Get the app and then email me that you need the invite link.

John’s Sectional Meet Update:

NEWPORT SWIM TEAM EXCELS A NORTHWEST CHAMPIONSHIP MEET IN SEATTLE AREA               3/17/24

The Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, WA was the location for the 2024 Spring Speedo Senior Sectional Swimming Championships March 14 thru 17.  77 Swim clubs from Alaska, Hawaii, Montana, Idaho, Washington, and Oregon sent over 900 swimmers to the Prelim/Finals meet contested in the long course (50 meter) tank.

NST qualified 4 team members: Sam Postlewait, Jack Sappington, Ben Hurty and Layla Bretz for the meet. No NST swimmer made it out of Prelims to Finals, so NST did not score any team points. But that did not lessen the outstanding results from racing against the fastest swimmers in the Pacific Northwest. Three new team records were established, along with 11 new personal bests swims.

Sam Postlewait had a best finish of a 39th in the 100-meter Backstroke. He recorded 4 PR’s and broke his own team records in the 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke.

Layla Bretz had one PR in the 100 Butterfly, where she finished 111th, and just missed (by 0.40) the NST team record held by Katie Chapman from 2003.

Jack Sappington recorded 2 PR’s in both his races, with a best placing if 120th in the 100 Breaststroke, in that race he broke the NST record previously held by Sam Cortes from 2022.

Ben Hurty had 4 PR’s out of 5 total races, his best placing was 78th in 200 Backstroke. As a side note, Ben also broke the previous NST record in the 100 Breaststroke mentioned above. He was less than 2 seconds behind Jack.

The Senior Sectional Championships is the fastest swim meet NST swimmers will have contested this season. The swimmers have continued to show time drops all season. Great job NST!
