John's CAT Meet Update:
Newport Swim Team 5/20/24
Over the weekend, Newport Swim Team took part in the annual Comfort Suites CAT LC Open swim meet in Corvallis May 17-19.
Twenty Oregon swim teams sent over 500 competitors to the meet, with NST having 9 swimmers take part. Corvallis Aquatic Team upset powerhouse Lake Oswego for the combined team title, while the small NST squad took 10th place overall – with ALL 9 NST swimmers scoring team points in the meet.
After 2 ½ days of racing, NST had 20 personal best times recorded and 28 Top 10 finishes against very strong competition. 12 yr old Skyla Chen had 5 Top 6 finishes over the weekend. 10 yr old Zoey Chappell continued her outstanding season to-date, by winning 4 events and taking a 2nd place in the 10 & Under girls division. 18 Yr old Sam Postlewait also took 1st in the 200 Backstroke in the 15 & Over Boys division. 14 yr old Gwynn Postlewait took a 2nd and 3rd in the 100 and 200 Breaststroke events.
Four members of the NHS state championship girls team broke the NST Open team record in the 400 Meter Medley Relay – Pia Lihou, Gwynn Postlewait, Layla Bretz and Ruby Perucci broke the previous record set last season.
