Albany Summer Blast Long Course Meet Update from John:
Newport Swim Team 6/3/24
The Newport Swim Team sent a small squad of 9 athletes to the AAA Summer Blast LC Invite in Albany May 31 – June 2. Ten (10) Oregon swim clubs attended the meet with slightly less than 170 swimmers taking part. Multnomah Aquatic Club out of Portland swept the girls and boys team scores. The NST boys squad finished in 10th place, because only 2 boys competed and only on Sunday, June 2. NHS swimmers Jahan Eibner and Ben Hurty were assisting with the Newport Marathon on Saturday. But once in the water, they made their presence known. Jahan won his 3 events in the 13-14 boys division, while Ben won the 100 Free to go along with a 2nd and 3rd placing in the 15 & Over Boys.
On the girl’s side, NST place 5th out of 10 in the team scoring. The meet provided the opportunity for 3 NST ladies to experience their first long course meet, 11 yr. old Emma Zamudio recorded 4 personal best swims, 12 yr. old Addie Boyce recorded 6 PR’s! while 13 yr old Ashlyn Conrad recorded 3 PR’s. Good job ladies!! 4 members of the 2024 NHS girls State Championship swim team competed on Sunday, again having assisted with the marathon the day before. Claire Hurty, 18, recorded 3 top 10 finishes, Gwynn Postlewait, Ruby Perucci and Hana Parker all 14, swam with confidence by collectively recording 9 top 3 placings out of 9 races. For good measure, they each won 1 event each and they swept the 100 Backstroke with Ruby, Gwynn and Hana going 1-3.
Overall, the 9 swimmers recorded 15 PR’s, won 7 races, and recorded 27 top 10 places. Finally, all 9 swimmers scored team points.
Next on the long course schedule for the local swimmers is the Annual Mike Morris LC Invite June 14-16 in Eugene.
Go NST!
