Arena Team Order

The free team Arena items are in and will be delivered to practice today.  Those who did list 3 preference items received 2 items. For those that listed only 1 item received that item.  

 

Meet Update from John

The past weekend saw members of the Newport Swim Team take part in three different meets around the state. Competing in their fastest meet of the season. Sam Postlewait and Ben Hurty took part in the 2024 Speedo LC Sectionals – Western Region Championships, held July 11 thru 14 at the Mt. Hood Community College Aquatic Center.  73 teams from Hawaii, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Arizona and Utah sent swimmers for this senior- level championship that saw numerous college age swimmers and individuals who had recently competed at the U.S. Olympic Trials.  King Aquatic Club from Seattle took the men’s team title, while Phoenix Swim Club took the woman’s team score.  Sam had a total of 6 prelim swims in which he earned a finals swim in the 100 Back, placing 30th overall. He also broke the NST team record for the 15 & Over 200-meter freestyle. His other best showings were a 41st in the 200 Backstroke and a 57th in the 50 free. Ben competed in 4 events at his first Sectional Championships, with a top finish of 53rd in the 200 Backstroke and a 56th in the 100 Backstroke. Sam is a recent graduate of NHS, while Ben will be a senior in the coming school year. Both boys led the NHS Boys swim team to the 2023-24 4A state championships last school year.

Three future Cubs were in action over the weekend at the 2024 OSI Arena Summer LC 10 & Under Championships July 13-14 at the Albany Community Pool.  8-year-olds Kenlie Ware, Olive Mitchell and Helen Faber shined in the 8 & Under division. 39 Oregon swim teams had over 360 swimmers achieve qualifying times, allowing them to compete in the meet. No team scores were kept.

Individually:

Helen Faber, 8 – Competing in her first state championship, Helen posted 2 personal best times, placed 20th in the 100-meter free (out of 43 competitors), 24th in the 50 back (out of 61 competitors) and 27th in the 50 free.

Olive Mitchell, 8 – Raced twice, taking a 13th in the 50 Back and 35th in the 50 Free.  Both were personal best times.

Kenlie Ware, 8 – took 4th in the 100 Free, 10th in the 50 Butterfly, 14th in the 50 Breast and 8th in both the 50 Back and 50 Free. She also dropped time in 4 of her races.

At the same pool as the 10 & Under Champs, a Last Chance meet was also held for swimmers 11 and Over swimmers, looking for additional racing and the opportunity to qualify for next week’s OSI 11 & Over LC State Championships. 18 Oregon teams sent over 180 swimmers to take part in the 2-day meet. Five NST swimmers took part.

         Jahan Eibner, 15, won the 400 Individual Medley, took 2nd in the 200 Breaststroke and 4th in the 400 free

         Jay Eibner, 11, posted 4 personal best swims and a OSI B time in the 200 Breast.

         Iker Leo, 12, also posted 4 PR’s and 2 OSI B times in the 50 & 100 Free.

         Sophia Lihou, 18, posted 2 PR’s in her three races, placed 7th in the 400 free and 8th in the 100 Back.  

         Ruby Perucci, 15 posted 4 PR’s and an 8th place finish in the 100 Back and 9th in the 200 Free.
