NNA News
NNA, As we begin the fall swim season, our schedule will once again
change and have some tweaks. First, Idlewild pool will be closing
after practice on Monday September 4th. All the practices that were
held at Idlewild will be moved over to Northwest pool.
Please take a look at the schedules and let me know if you have any
questions.
The upcoming NNA events for the fall season will be listed below on
the schedule and underlined. These events will need volunteers from
our team to help run smoothly. We also offer volunteer hours for any
person who helps out at our events. This will be helpful for any
community service that needs to be done or for some families
attending Manogue high.
We would like to do a team Halloween party sometime towards the
end of October. If you are interested in hosting, please email me.
We have our meet schedule for the fall season posted up on our web
site. It is now finalized. We are still going to try and add the last day
to sign up on our notifications so that people will get signed up on
time. Remember the sooner you sign up, the better. Some meets close
early if they fill up with too many swimmers. This usually happens
when the estimated timeline for the meet surpasses the usual 4-hour
rule for 12 and under swimmers.
Please help out the team by becoming an official. We need more to
help out athletes. More on officiating is listed below.
Regular practice schedule is up on the web site

Meet and Events Recap:
As always, full results are available on our web sit when they are
available under the News tab.
Donner Dip
The Donner Dip went off with great water and great weather. We had
more adults than we anticipated. We might have a Senior Division
next year. Also, since everyone told me how easy the swims were, we
might make them longer next year.
Team Party at Wild Island.
What a great event. We had over 130 people from our team attend.
The catered food was great and it looked like everyone had a fun time.
I am pretty sure we are going to make the end of the summer party
and yearly event. Thank you to everyone who helped make it a
success.
NNA Novice Meet October 21st in Carson
We are going to try to host a swim meet in Carson for our annual
Halloween Novice meet. We will need some volunteers to help out.
Please email Jorie at [email protected] to help out. Thanks.
Swimming officials needed
Why become a swim official?
As a parent of a swimmer, you have the opportunity to get involved with your
children and their sport in a significant way. Northern Nevada Aquatics needs
trained officials to provide fair and equitable competition for all swimmers. Having a
set standard of rules for the strokes and the races creates a controlled environment
for all of our athletes to compete in fairly.
What are the different roles for swim officials?
Most swim officials begin by becoming certified as Stroke & Turn Judges, ensuring
that our athletes consistently swim according to USA Swimming rules. Swim officials
are also needed to operate the electronic timing equipment and to manage the
administrative aspects (seeding, results, etc.) of the meet. After gaining more
experience, many of these officials advance to become Starters (ensuring that all
swimmers get a fair start) and Referees (in charge of the overall competition).
What kind of training is provided?
You’ll start by attending an officials clinic, where the rules of swimming and
procedures of officiating are presented and discussed. At your first several meets,
you’ll be “shadowing” experienced officials who will serve as trainers and mentors.
Training materials and additional clinics are readily available.
What are the benefits of being an official?
You’ll be close to the action. You’ll learn all the rules of the sport. You’ll be working
with the greatest group of volunteers in all sports. It’s a great way to meet future
Olympians—unless you already have one in your home!
