The Piranhas Learn-To-Swim Program 

Our Swim Club offers Learn-To-Swim classes to give local children an opportunity to learn how to swim with the hope that the graduates of this swimming program will join our team at a Pre-Team level and will become the next generation of the Piranha Swimming Team inspiring athletes.
 
Learn-To-Swim Program Information:
 
Piranha Swimming provides a top-notch Learn-To-Swim Program suitable for swimmers at any skill level. An excellent curriculum with a low 4:1 student-to-instructor ratio ensures that your child receives the optimal amount of attention and guidance in the safest environment possible. All our swim instructors are lifeguard certified (CPR certification is a part of the lifeguarding training).
 
Our Swimming Program consists of 5 sessions, each running for two weeks.
Classes will be conducted from Monday through Thursday at Magnolia Pool.

LEARN-TO-SWIM SESSIONS DESCRIPTION:

SESSION 1 / GROUP 1A & 1B

Beginner's level 1 or STARFISH FAMILY: Swimmers will learn the very basics of swimming. With the nurturing and skilled assistance of our swimming instructors, swimmers will learn:

- to enter and exit water using a ladder, steps, or side

- to submerge mouth, nose, and eyes, 

- to blow bubbles through the mouth and nose 

- to float on their fronts and backs

- to roll over from front to back and back to front

- to glide and to recover to vertical position from a front glide and back float or glide

- to do flutter kicks and much more!

Children will also be gently introduced to bobbing and breath control. They will be taught to behave safely around aquatic environments. 

 

SESSION 2 / GROUP 1A, 1B, & 1C

Beginner's level 2 or SEAHORSE HERD: Swimmers will acquire fundamental aquatic skills. With the gentle but firm guidance provided by our swim instructors, swimmers will learn:

- to fully submerge under water and hold breath

- to do proper Bobbing

- to open eyes underwater and retrieve submerged objects

- to perform front, jellyfish, and tuck floats

- to tread water using arm and leg actions

- to use combined arm and leg actions on the front and back

- finning arm action on the back 

- to swim for 5 feet on the front and back

They will continue working on front and back glides and back float, recovering from a front and back float glide to a vertical position, rolling from front to back and back to front, changing the direction of swimming, etc. They will be continuously reminded about the basics of staying safe around aquatic environments while enjoying water sports.

 

SESSION 3 / GROUP 1A, 1B, & 1C

 

Beginner's level 3 or SQUIDS SQUAD: Swimmers will work on stroke development. With the individually tailored guidance provided by our swim instructors, swimmers will consolidate knowledge of:

- safely entering the water by jumping from the side

- doing front and back floats and gliding on front and back

- rolling from front to back and back to front

- using combined arm and leg actions on the front and back

- doing proper Bobbing in a static position and while swimming toward the opposite side of the pool. 

- treading water using arm and leg actions

- finning arm action on the back 

- push off in a streamlined position

 

The swimmers will also be introduced to new skills such as:

 

- Headfirst entry from the side in sitting and kneeling positions
- Breaststroke arm technique
- Rotary breathing
- Flutter and dolphin kicks on the front after push-off in a streamlined position
- Front crawl and elementary backstroke  (Swimmers will use kickboards for developing mechanics for the freestyle stroke)
- Scissors kick 

 

They will be continuously reminded about the basics of staying safe around aquatic environments while enjoying water sports.

 

SESSION 4 / GROUP 1A, 1B, 1C, 1D, 1E, 1F

 

Beginner's level 4 or OTTERS ROMP: Swimmers will work on stroke improvement. With the individually tailored guidance provided by our swim instructors, swimmers will continue working on the following:

 

- front and back floats and front and back glides

- rolling from front to back and back to front

- combined arm and leg actions on the front and back

- doing proper Bobbing in a static position and while swimming toward the opposite side of the pool. 

- finning arm action on the back 

- push off in a streamlined position

 

Our students will also continue learning proper techniques (or essential elements) of:

- Rotary breathing

- Front crawl, freestyle with side breathing, and elementary backstroke (Swimmers will use kickboards for developing mechanics for the freestyle stroke)

- Flutter and dolphin kicks on the front after push-off in a streamlined position

- intro to turning at the wall (if time permits).

 

The focus of this session will be side breathing technique, flutter and dolphin kicks, and freestyle with side breathing and elementary backstroke. 

 

Our swimmers will also review the basics of staying safe around aquatic environments while enjoying water sports.

 

SESSION 5 / GROUP 1A, 1B, 1C, 1D, 1E, 1F

 

Beginner's level 5 or SCHOOL OF PIRANHAS: Swimmers will continue working on improving strokes and kicks. Our swim instructors will provide the swimmers with individually tailored training focused on the following:

 

- rolling from front to back, floating, and rolling back to front (between short-distance swimming)

- combined arm and leg actions on the front and back

- bobbing to safety skill (while swimming toward the opposite side of the pool)

- finning arm action on the back 

- push off in a streamlined position

- Rotary breathing

- Front crawl, freestyle with side breathing, and elementary backstroke (Swimmers will use kickboards for developing mechanics for the freestyle stroke)

- Flutter kicks after push-off in a streamlined position

- intro to turning at the wall (if time permits).

 

The main focus of this session will be side breathing technique, flutter kicks, freestyle with side breathing, and elementary backstroke. 

 

Our swimmers will also review the basics of staying safe around aquatic environments while enjoying water sports.

 

Our Team intends to run this program every spring, summer, and fall. Below is an example of the schedule for such a program. We used this schedule in the Fall of 2023.
