How to Mark Your Swimmer's Arm:

Sunscreen First: Before warm-up and marking your arm, make sure your swimmer has sunscreen on. Let it dry.

  1. Find Heat Sheets: heat sheets are posted at every meet event. They include swimmers’ names, heat, distance, and event types (e.g., 50-yard freestyle).
  2. Use a Sharpie to Draw a Grid: Draw a grid in the middle of their forearm. Make sure it is where the swimmer can read it.
  3. Fill in the Grid with a Sharpie: Write the event number, heat #, lane #, and stroke or relay position within the grid. Ensure to write events in order, starting with the first at the top and so on.
  4. Sharpie can be removed by rubbing sunscreen on it after the meet.
