Chinook Commmitment:
“To build a foundation for high standard coaching to promote the development, practice, and execution of swimmers reaching their highest and most desired level of competitive swimming skills and to promote a safe and supportive environment to promote child/swimmer protection.”
Philosophy: Chinook Aquatic Club is a USA Swimming and PNS Swimming club that offers high levels of professional coaching (between the ages of 5-18 years of age) who promote the abilities to address a swimmer's key needs in all aspects physiological and psychological capabilities in the sport of swimming. Our goal is to provide every swimmer with an opportunity to achieve success at any ability level, based on their own individualistic goals and aspirations in collaboration with their age group site coach and head coach. These goals could simply be to achieve water safety and efficient swimming techniques all the way up to becoming a national/international level swimmer. We are confident that any swimmer who goes through our program develops important life skills through the sport of swimming. Goal-setting, time management, self-discipline, and a growth mindset are just a few skills our swimmers will develop and take with them throughout all aspects of their lives.
Principles: At Chinook, our core principles to develop not just a well-rounded swimmer but a well-rounded person are defined under these 4 pillars:
Psychological Mastery: Having a process-based mindset rather than an outcome-based mindset. We have to tune our brain to control the controllables, such as attitude, effort, and intensity. Rather than focusing on what will happen it is important to focus on what we can do in the moment.
Technical Mastery: The more refined our technique becomes the more efficient we swim. The more efficient we become, the faster we become.
Teamwork: As a team we must always encourage and uplift each other to become the best version of ourselves. Providing a positive atmosphere is the key to growth.
Ownership/Accountability: Own your process! Hold yourself accountable for the things you need to be successful. Show up for practice on time, get proper rest, maintain proper nutrition and hygiene, etc…
Training Program: We provide a strong foundation for our swimmers through a quality over quantity approach. Our younger groups are designed to be fun and developmental, free time for other sports/activities is highly encouraged at this stage. Our older groups are designed to be more competitive. Swimmers and families at this level will be asked to dedicate more to swimming. Each swimmer will perform differently but they will get out of it what they put into it.
