Members of the Senior, Sockeye, and Surge Squads recently competed at the 2019 IST Spring Open at the King County Aquatic Center. This meet represented the second long-course meet of the season and offered many of our swimmer’s their first experience of long course competition for the summer. Athletes needed to have at least one PNS Silver time in order to participate. Overall, IST achieved 609 best times, with 175 of those coming in first-time swims, multiple new Silver, Gold, and Champs cuts, and one new team record.

The theme for the weekend emphasized the importance teammates helping each other succeed. “TEAMmates get you where you want to go.” Each athlete has their own path in the sport, but we work together as a team to create the energy necessary for each member to reach their goals. We do this by standing up for each other, using positive words of encouragement, cheering, sharing space, sitting as a team, and wearing team gear. While there are many roads to success, we travel together and depend on each other for the fuel and fire necessary to reach our destinations!

This meet also served as a reminder of the importance of family in supporting our athletes on their journeys toward success. As an IST-hosted competition, we relied on the willingness of our families to volunteer their time, energy, and expertise to ensure the event went off flawlessly. Thank you to those of you who served as timers, runners, deck marshals, officials, hospitality workers, and more. Your swimmers appreciate it!

IST swimmers will return to action at the 2019 IE Apple Capital Invitational in Wenatchee, WA, over the weekend of May 31-June 2.
