Bri Jurries (she/her) hails originally from Phoenix, AZ where she swam competitively through the club, high school, and championship circuits. She was the 8th athlete in Arizona HS Swimming history to win and successfully defend a championship title all 4 years of eligibility (100Y Breaststroke). In 2012, she qualified and competed at USA Swimming's Olympic Trials in Omaha in the 200M Breaststroke. She signed initially with the University of Michigan, then transferred to the University of San Diego to compete her last 3 years. At USD, Bri won and defended her 200Y Breaststroke title at the MPSF Championships 3 years in a row, while also breaking a conference and pool record at the East LA complex in 2017. She finished her career with eight top 5 finishes at conference championships, multiple All-American titles, and was awarded MVP in her final season.
Bri started coaching the USD Club Swim team in their first season, where many athletes went on to compete in Iron Man's, triathlons, and San Diego Open Water competitions. She returned to Phoenix to coach at Gold Medal Swim School, specializing with their Pre-Competitive team (ages 7-13), with emphasis on stroke technique, control, and 'serious fun' for young swimmers. In 2020, she shifted to the tech industry, managing and developing Fortune 500 accounts with high-powered software solutions, and also moved to Seattle in '21. What better time to return to the pool than during an Olympic year, and Coach Bri is so excited to join the Sockeyes!
Coach Bri believes swimming should be a vehicle towards building confidence, community, and character in athletes and families. As psychological and physical safety is her top priority, she seeks to build and maintain safe spaces both in and out of the pool for anyone who steps on deck.

My swimming adventure began at age 5, mainly because my older brother was a swimmer. I had some success at the state level in my early grade school days, but didn’t really get serious about the sport until I got to high school. I did regularly participate in activities like other sports, music, and art, but swimming was the priority. After high school, I continued to swim at the college level.
While I did have levels of success in the sport of swimming, looking back, it was an injury that had the most impact. Because of a shoulder injury my senior year in college, I spent many practices and meets talking to and learning from my coach which sparked my interest in the sport from the coaching perspective. That summer, I worked some camps and my coaching career had begun!
As a coach, swimming has taken me from my hometown to California (and now to Washington)! In Iowa, I coached my high school alma mater and the local swim club I grew up with. I also helped start a new club. In California, I coached for two different clubs and a high school team. Then, after almost 30 years in the sport of swimming, I stepped away from the pool deck for a while. During that time I ran a wedding venue, managed at a restaurant, worked at a retirement home, and most recently was a paraeducator at an elementary school.
I always knew that coaching was something that I’d want to come back to…I love the sport of swimming and coaching is the most rewarding job I’ve ever had. In the summer of 2024, I was approached by a friend I’d grown up swimming with about coaching her daughter’s high school team. After a few weeks, I knew I was ready to come back. There’s just something about the smell of chlorine in the morning, right? After a fun season, I began looking for the right fit to get back into the world of swimming. This search led me to Issaquah!
I’m very excited and motivated to be on the pool deck again!
