2019 Spring Time Trial Recap
Members of the Sockeye, Surge, and Steelhead Squads competed at the 2019 IST Spring Time Trial meet at Julius Boehm Pool on Sunday, June 23rd. IST athletes achieved 234 best times, with 94 of those coming in first time swims, as well as multiple new PNS Silver times.
The IST Spring Time Trial served as a great opportunity for our members who may not have had other chances to race to experience the competition environment. Since many of our long course meets require either cut times, experience in a given event, or both, having a meet tailored to those athletes who may not otherwise get to race was a lot of fun.
Competitively, swimmers and coaches focused on enjoying the chance to race. We had a lot of new members and Steelhead athletes for whom this may have been their first competition of the year. The goals consisted of gaining experience in the meet environment, demonstrating progress in stroke development, and having fun!
Our theme for the weekend was “TOGETHER we race, learn, and enjoy.” Since this meet was only IST kids and families, realizing that we are in it together and pushing each other, by giving one’s all is a very effective way of being a great teammate. This opportunity to only race teammates allowed for some comfort, but we always want to get each other fired up and have fun racing! We encouraged the athletes to challenge themselves in a way they had not done in practice so far.
That support and strength in teammates was demonstrated through the presence of our senior squad swimmers who showed up to volunteer at the meet. It was great to see our most experienced athletes step up and help out their younger teammates! This meet was also an object lesson in the importance of community and coming together in that we would not have been able to hold the event without the support of our amazing parents and volunteers. A big thank you to all who stepped forward TOGETHER as timers, officials, announcers, runners, deck marshals, and more!
Congratulations to all of our athletes who participated in this meet!
