2019 Pac Coast Recap

IST Communications

Members of the Senior, Sockeye, and Surge Squads competed at the 2019 Pacific Coast meet at the King County Aquatic Center June 15-16th. Over the course of the weekend, IST athletes achieved 512 best times, with 208 of those coming in first time swims, multiple new Gold, Silver, Champs, and Zones cut times, and three new team records.

For some athletes, Pac Coast served as their fourth long-course meet of the year. This means they have had a chance to swim each race at least once, acclimated themselves to the long-course racing environment, and practiced race strategies. For other swimmers, this was their first long-course meet (or even first competition, period!) of the year. The focus for them was necessarily differ. Our coaching staff worked with each training group and athlete to make sure we communicated an appropriate competitive focus depending on these factors and more.

Our theme for this meet was “Progressing Together."  We are excited to be over half way through the season. This is a time we get to celebrate some achievements and recognize that we are in it together.  As you see yourself progress, achieve goals, or exceed goals, some appreciation for the teammates that push you daily, and their support, can help you work towards even greater success.  An attitude of gratitude for teammates is one of the greatest shifts of perception one can make on the path of mastery.

As a team, IST enjoyed incredible success in the pool at this meet. Many athletes had a chance to enjoy their first long-course competition of the year, and we had an extremely high proportion of best times. Special recognition is in order for three performances of a particularly high caliber. In the 10&U Girls 200M Breaststroke, JULIA SHANG broke the IST team record and posted a time of 3:22.45. That time was fast enough to place Julia 20thin the country for her age group and gender in that event. In the Boys 10&U 200M Breaststroke, BRETT WANG broke the IST team record and posted a time of 3:21.94. That time was fast enough to place Brett 12thin the country for his age group and gender in that event. Finally, in the 11-12 Boys 50M Breaststroke, ANDREW NGUYEN broke the IST team record and posted a time of 33.37. That time was fast enough to place Andrew 2ndin the country for his age group and gender in that event.

Congratulations to all of our athletes who participated in this meet!
