2019 AG Seattle Open Recap

IST Communications

Members of the Surge and Sockeye Squads competed at the 2019 Age Group Seattle Open meet at Colman Pool in West Seattle July 19-20th. IST athletes achieved 165 best times, with 15 of those coming in first time swims, as well as multiple new Silver, Gold, Champs, and Zones cuts.

The Age Group Seattle Open meet represented the final long course competition for our age group-level swimmers prior to their end-of-season championship meets. Competitively, coaches and athletes were looking for quality execution and aggressive racing.

The meet served as a great opportunity to work on overcoming adverse conditions. The weather on Friday morning included a light rain that wasn’t in the forecast, and temperatures didn’t really warm up until into the afternoon. The lack of a warm up/cool down pool highlighted the importance of that pre- and post-race routine for our older swimmers. Lastly, many swimmers didn’t like the taste and feel of the salt water. Even with all that, we still had some incredible swims!

Our meet theme for this meet was “FEARLESS TOGETHER!” This entailed being fearless in pursuit of goals, in racing, and testing the comfort zones of your level of effort. We can be fearless because we have the support of each other. No matter what happens, your teammates will support you, your coach will coach you, and your parents will love you. A part of our journey consists of testing our boundaries and doing so fearlessly.

Athletes from the Surge and Sockeye Squads will be back in action at the upcoming Short Course Summer Divisionals championship meet July 26th-28th.

Congratulations to all of our athletes who participated in this meet and keep up the hard work!
