Washington Open Recap

IST Communications

The Washington Open was held at King County Aquatic Center from January 16-19th. Senior program swimmers competed at their first meet of the new year and second half of the short course season. Eighty-two teams competed at the meet culminating in over 6,000 individual swims.

Swimmers at this meet got to be a part of some serious competition and take note of how other teams from across the state approached this meet. Some teams held off on their taper for this meet and took advantage of the Prelims/Finals format, others were just getting back into the swing of competition and seeing where their teams were at. No matter the case, fast swimming was on the agenda this weekend and there were some truly electrifying swims.

IST had 18 Sockeyes compete, they combined for 36 personal bests over the weekend. Among those were a several new Gold, Silver, and Age Group Regional qualifying times.

Athletes from the Senior Groups will be back in action at the Winter Challenge meet the end of this month. It will be nice to have some breathing room on the pool deck!

Congratulations to all the athletes who participated in this meet, keep up the hard work!
