2022 CHINOOK PENTATHLON RECAP

On November 6th, IST athletes and coaches attended the Chinook Pentathlon at Mary-Waite pool on Mercer Island.

Pentathlon-style meets serve as a great opportunity for IST swimmers to demonstrate their comfort, familiarity, and expertise in the four competitive strokes. Typically, pentathlon meets will have athletes swim in one event from each stroke discipline plus an individual medley.

A meet format rewarding well-rounded athletes serves IST well as it reflects a core principle of our coaching philosophy: the importance of developing swimmers in all aspects and disciplines of the sport by offering broad and varied experiences in the aquatic environment. We take pride in our balanced curriculum, and that emphasis shows strongly in meets such as this.

Our meet goals for the weekend included:

  • Experiencing the pentathlon meet format (5 events in one day!)

  • Correcting mistakes and learning from previous DQs

  • Having fun and RACING!

Throughout this competition, IST athletes learned from previous meets, demonstrated grit while competing in five races each, and executed their race strategies excellently.

Coach Amanda took some excellent pictures at the competition that are featured in this recap. You can find more pictures from this competition and other IST events here on our Instagram page.
