2023 IST SPRING TIME TRIAL & DISTANCE MEET RECAP

On February 5th, 203 IST athletes traveled to Snohomish Aquatic Center for the 2023 IST Spring Time Trial & Distance meet. This competition was the second for Surge, Sockeye and some Senior athletes. The Time Trial was also the Steelhead squads second competition opportunity during our short course season.

Spring Time Trial served as another opportunity for our Surge, Sockeye, and Senior athletes to compete in core events (25s, 50s, or 100s of the strokes). This meet was also the second of two meet opportunities for our Steelhead swimmers. Surge, Sockeye, and Senior swimmers used the weekend to practice race strategies and clean up race details. Steelhead swimmers had another opportunity to participate in the meet process (warm ups, checking in with coaches, staging, etc.) and build on their experience from the Fall Time Trial.

The distance meet represented the second opportunity to swim the mile for most IST athletes this season. Some were participating in this event for the first time ever! For swimmers new to the event, the goal was to welcome the challenge of competing in the mile for the first time while practicing the mental focus required for distance freestyle events. For swimmers who had done the race before, the goal was to improve the execution of our 1650 race strategy and demonstrate growth in the quality of the race (for example, consistent pacing, stroke maintenance, aggression, etc.).
