2023 February AGI recap

From February 24-26th, 94 IST athletes and coaches traveled to Snohomish Aquatic Center for the 2023 February Age Group Invite. This was our fourth competition of the SC2 2 season and the second in which a qualifying time was needed to compete. 

Meet goals and entry strategies for this competition varied widely by group. IST athletes and coaches worked to keep their focus on executing excellent race strategies while staying loose and enjoying the competition. While it can be easy to become fixated on certain time standards at this point in the season, all coaches worked to keep the focus on preparing during practice and enjoying the meet. 

This competition also offered prelims and finals events. IST had a multitude of athletes returning to swim during finals on each day of the meet. Finals exercise a number of different skills than prelims as athletes have to rest and recover for up to three additional swims on each day. Additionally, IST athletes chose to return even when they were listed as alternates for a finals event. Swimmers who returned as alternates went through their meet warm up, checked in with the meet referee, and stayed ready to swim. There were several instances where athletes from other teams were not present and an IST swimmer was ready to go! These were great opportunities to use these skills and we did not let them go to waste!
